Random New Cards

Custom Cards forum

I have created several new cards, and, rather than make a separate thread for each card, I have decided to post all of them in this thread, for everyone here to review.

Infernal Witness Show

This creature is a black version of Eternal Witness; normally, black can return only creature cards or cards of its own color from the graveyard, but I feel that returning any card in exchange for loss of life is an acceptable bend.

Gift of Erebos Show

I am very surprised that WotC never made a card such as this during either the original Theros block or Theros: beyond Death, because it is such a simple and straightforward design. In my opinion, 2 mana would have been too low of a cost for this card, and 4 mana would have been too high, so I compromised and gave it a mana cost of 3.

Champion's Belt Show

This card was inspired by, and modeled after, the ridiculously large and fancy belts that are given to winners of fighting events, so it naturally has abilities that focus on combat; it was also partially inspired by Champion's Helm, so it provides additional bonuses to legendary creatures.

Soul Evasion Show

Soul Evasion is the name of an epic song by an obscure death metal band named Chastisement, and I knew that I had to make a card with that name (because the Phryexians are very much this game's equivalent of the death metal genre), which is modeled after Cloudshift, but, because of its more flexible casting cost, it cannot be used to permanently take control of an opponent's creature.

Phyrexian Gatekeeper Show

This creature is a Phyrexian version of Loxodon Gatekeeper, but with a higher overall mana cost to balance the fact that its cost is more flexible, and I also increased its power and toughness and gave it vigilance to balance the increased cost (and because I believe that a 2/3 for 4 mana was a terrible bargain in the original card).

What does everyone else say about these cards? Do you like them?

Please don't make more cards with Phyrexian mana, it's SO fucking broken...

Omniscience_is_life, I do not agree with that; I believe that, as long as Phyrexian mana is used cautiously and judiciously, it can be balanced and not be overpowered.

How would you feel about the cards you made if you were to replace all instances of Phyrexian mana with no mana at all? Because that's pretty indicative of how it would work out in-game, especially in Commander where your starting life-total is high enough where the extra 2 goes unnoticed

Agreed. Phyrexian mana was a mistake as it was too open. Too flexible. And that opened up for abuse. 1 mana removal in all colors with Dismember or a free and limited but applicable counter spells with Mental Misstep. The mistake is making it mana reducing (tempo wise) and available in all colors.

If Phyrexian mana had some tangibility to it, to shackle it at least to its own color or somehow require the mana available but not use them, it could be balanced out. It wasn't and now it just needs to be buried.
