Gix is a major character in the story, but he has not yet been depicted on a card, so I have decided to make such a card, and here is my conception of him.

Gix, High Priest of Yawgmoth Show

Given that Griselbrand is a creature version of Yawgmoth's Bargain, I wished to make a creature version of Yawgmoth's Will that did not require sacrificing itself, as does Magus of the Will; to balance the fact that Gix remains on the battlefield, his ability works only while his controller has a certain number of cards in their graveyard and also causes that player to lose life when they cast spells from their graveyard.

What does everyone else think of this card? Do you like it?

But... Yawgmoth’s Will is... YAWGMOTH’S will, not Gix’s

Omniscience_is_life Gix serves the will of Yawgmoth. It's actually pretty fitting.

Personally I'm not really a fan of a card that grants Yawgmoth's Will combined with a Bolas's Citadel alternative / replaced cost.

That being said, I think the life loss should be a payment and I think it should be connected to using the Threshold ability. Otherwise you are bound to this cost whenever using other effects that casts from the graveyard, say flashback or retrace or plain ol' Haakon, Stromgald Scourge. I don't think Gix should taint your graveyard for effects he doesn't cause.

It is definitely intentional that wizards never actually gave him his own card. My guess is that they’re planning on revisiting Gix’s story in the future. My first thought was that Gix had simply been forgotten about, but after remembering that Rona exists, I am certain that Gix would have been in Commander Legends if they didn’t have plans for him. After all, in Commander Legends, they hooked in several characters that had only barely been mentioned before.

I suspect we’ll get a Gix-based subplot the next time we visit Dominaria, and that Rona was foreshadowing that. I may be wrong on that, but that’s what I’d theorize.

I will say, though I do usually appreciate folks making new cards, I don’t like the idea of taking WotC’s characters and turning them into your cards. There is an infinite supply of names you could use to make your own legendary creatures, but instead you chose to take WotC’s creatures and make them your own. That is your choice, but one I will not endorse.

I think that, from a top-down perspective your card is on point, but from a balance perspective, it just feels too powerful. Have you considered that they had a reason for literally 0 of these effects staying around?
