Why mill should be excited about the spoiled Eldrazi.

First off WotC has put up a new article showing the face cards of the BFZ duel deck: http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/arcana/duel-decks-zendikar-vs-eldrazi-packaging-2015-07-29

Now if you haven't already reread Oblivion Sower. Now remember that if you're playing mill having Leyline of the Void is always a smart thing. Do you see where I'm going with this?

If your deck has even half of the following you will see situations where your mill pulls out 6+ lands turn six fairly often:

Demonic Tutor
Diabolic Tutor
Vampiric Tutor

Traumatize
Trepadation blade
Phenax, God of Deception
Mesmeric Orb
Nephalia Drownyard
Hedron Crab
Mindcrank
Altar of Dementia
Jace's Archivist
Consuming Aberration
Oona, Queen of the Fae!

For those that still don't see it: "When you cast Oblivion Sower, target opponent opponent exiles the top four cards of his or her library, then you may put any number of land cards that player owns from exile onto the battlefield under your control."

The important part is "then you may put any number of land cards that player owns from exile onto the battlefield under your control." So lets say you cast Traumatize on a player T5 with Leyline of the Void out. They exiled 40ish cards. Turn six you cast the new Eldrazi and exile another 4 of their cards. Now from those 44 cards in exile, you put all of the lands into play under you control. Untapped, because it doesn't specify otherwise. Now you just win.

EDIT: Forgot to mention it, but could you imagine Oblivion Sower + Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver in standard at the same time? Talk about theft. WotC always puts the coolest things just out of my reach.

Hedron Crab + Oblivion Sower.

Seems strong.

Ideally you want to use the first five turns to get as much land into their graveyard as possible since Oblivion Sower's land stealing is part of his bigger triggered ability. Still, you could pair him with something that allows you to return a creature to hand each turn. If playing BUG then Temur Sabertooth comes to mind.

I think it's about time that Mill got something powerfull really. The fact that it's also good with Phenax, God of Deception is just gravy. I mean even without Phenax a 6/8 for 6 is a solidi beater in commander. It can block and kill a Sun Titan without dying for Pete's sake! Giving it the extra 2 toughness and having this as a colorless card is very nice, especially considering how every single decks is starving for tripple and tripple as soon as possible to use the best cards.

Really I just can't decide if I would want to do this with Phenax or Oona. Oona is nice because she works without Leyline of the Void.

It's a 5/8, not 6/8.

kengiczar I'm running my build with Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker. when he hits, he guarantees an additional four lands for the Sower to hit.

RussischerZar you beautiful fucking person.

Not sure but people seem to be forgetting that you need to exile the lands, not just put em in the grave. Hence no Hedron Crab, Vosk, ect. Realm Razer is cool for sure though.

Totally gonna run him in my U/B Grimgrin Deck

RoarMaster if the lands are in exile say with Leyline of the Void then you play him with a Hedron Crab on the field then all the lands entering the battlefield from exile will trigger the landfall ability for mass amounts of milling.

Lifa hedron crab + leyline + sower = 11 to exile 4 and probably exile/play 1 land and then mill for 3 cards. Seems pretty expensive for very little impact. It would gain you more if you have had leyline out for awhile and have spent (X) mana and (Y) cards in order to pre-emptively mill them, but then again thats not necessarily making it any more efficient. Combine this with the fact that many if not most mill decks run a good amount of graveyard recursion that would become useless with leyline out, and I just dont think I would call it 'pretty strong'.

Just my two cents.

Honestly I'd rather mill them tons and then Hedonist's Trove them prior to playing Sower.

July 30, 2015 3:23 p.m.

RoarMaster says... #16

dbpunk that would be great, if expensive to get out. Or Bojuka Bog, Nihil Spellbomb, Tormod's Crypt, Relic of Progenitus would be more efficient alternatives.

The reason why I said Hedonist's Trove is because this card would make it more feasible. The issue with Trove is that you have to actually be using mana of that color. instead of just milling them and exiling to get tons of land, I want to mill them, exile their stuff from graveyard and then use their lands to cast their stuff.

July 30, 2015 4:38 p.m.

dbpunk it's EDH. if their lands aren't in your color identity, they'll only produce colorless mana anyways.

dbpunk says... #19

Oh shit yeah that's true. Ok so unless you're doing five color mill or you're playing against an artifact deck my idea doesn't work that great.

It's too slow for duel commander and not really that powerful in EDH. I don't see it winning me any games.

That Realm Razer + Oblivion Sower hurts. So If I understood it right I can exile everyone's lands and then use the Sower to steal all of one persons lands that were just on the battlefield and they get none of theirs back? That's so beautifully disgusting.

I can't wait for the same people who always gripe and wine when I use Ajani Vengeant's ultimate against them use the Realm Razer combo on me. I know it's going to happen. And I am going to be ready with Counterflux so those damned mage's can't even help their friends get revenge. Mwahahahaha!
