should they be legendary? do they look fun? have you ever played against them? are these all questions?

Play with them as commanders if you want. Now that partner is a thing, they don’t do anything that special.

I have a lot of opinions about which cards should be legendary and which shouldn’t... but I think these guys are relatively balanced as nonlegendary

I personally think they should be legendary. In particular, Dune-Brood Nephilim, Ink-Treader Nephilim, and Yore-Tiller Nephilim offer unique abilities that the other four color commanders and partner pairs don't.

Ink-Treader Nephilim is the most busted.

The only thing with Ink-Treader Nephilim is they can basically board wipe with a single Murder

(They being an opponent)

Accepted Then = Accepted Now

Tamanoa I also have 0 problems with and I'm sure there's other non-legendary creatures I wouldn't care about either.

I want to know why we haven't seen them on either of our return trips to ravnica

We didn't see the Nephilim in the return sets because they all died in the original Ravnica block.

My position is: Always ask before playing a nonlegendary commander deck. Respect their no. No one is obligated to play against a deck just because you built it.

On the flip side of things, they are mechanically unique and, with the exception of Ink-Treader Nephilim, not too overpowered or consistent. So give them a shot.

Excuse me if I’m completely overlooking something here, but isn’t Ink-Treader Nephilim basically just a quad-colored Mirrorwing Dragon?

Ink-Treader is subtly different from Zada and Mirrorwing Dragon.

Whenever any player casts an instant or sorcery that only targets Ink-Treader Nephilim, that spell is copied for each other creature that player could target with that spell. Note that the spell is copied based on the caster could target, but the copies are owned by Ink-Treader Nephilim's controller. Ink-Treader is the only one that copies for the whole board, which is why there's a lot of weird interactions with it.

Zada says whenever you cast a spell that targets only Zada, copy that spell for each other creature you control that the spell could target. Your opponent's spells do nothing with Zada.

Mirrorwing Dragon says whenever any player casts a spell that targets Mirrorwing Dragon, they copy that spell for each of their creatures that spell could target. Spells only get copied for the player that cast them.

Once more, I’m not claiming to know more here, but that subtle difference seems to be a downfall in the Ink-Treader Nephilim-Mirrorwing Dragon case, as for one a single Murder is a board wipe for all, but for the other it’s a one-sided one, where the player whose cards are wiped is the active player of the Murder. Seems abusable.
