Slivers Except Not

Commander (EDH) forum

So, I was thinking, and I had kind of a realization. Why is it that EVERY person who plays Slivers (in EDH of course) uses a Sliver as their commander? Now, there's obvious upsides to doing this, but at the same time, I was thinking, this is somewhat limiting. For example, what if someone were to play Alesha, Who Smiles at Death as commander in a deck of Slivers. Alesha revives a good majority of the Slivers, and gives access to most of the colors necessary. Name one Sliver commander who can do reanimator/extra combat shenanigans. Other possibilities that come to mind are Karador, Ghost Chieftain, Illuna, Apex of Wishes, as well as Chulane, Teller of Tales. I think that as long as the commander has 3 colors, and is able to benefit the overall gameplan, they can see success as a Sliver commander. What do you think? (Or what ideas do you have)?

It is relatively easy to go infinite with slivers - a mana sliver and an untap all effect like Aggravated Assault; Sliver Queen with a mana sliver, a haste sliver, and Basal Sliver; Sliver Queen and a cost reduced like Training Grounds with Basal Sliver; Sliver Queen with Mana Echoes.

Using Sliver Queen in your command zone both gives you a combo piece and an outlet for infinite mana, allowing you to generate infinite slivers. Using Sliver Overlord in your command zone gives you a way to tutor your combo pieces and also tutor Amoeboid Changeling so you can use your infinite mana/infinite untaps to take all your opponents’ blockers.

Chants from the crowd Brew it! Brew it! Brew it! XD.

Always a fan of the road less traveled. The 'out of the ordinary' builds, because how do you know if something works if you don't try. Post if you do end up making something.

I think one reason people tend to use slivers for sliver commanders is because you get every sliver as an option for your deck. That being said, go for it, I'd love to see what you come up with. I would say Chulane, Teller of Tales would be your best option. Being able to have a card draw engine and access to green for the ramp slivers would help with acceleration.

I mean, it's probably because no other commander I know of easily tutors out each other sliver (Sliver Overlord)

Slivers is tribal... but you could totally try. Main problem is that Sliver Overlord or Sliver Queen are just the absolute best ways to play slivers in EDH.

Well, I'm going to try a few ideas and see how they go.

What about Morophon, the Boundless? That has five colors and you can cast all sliver Lord's for free.
