Orzhov Blink

Commander (EDH) forum

I'm curious what commanders would be worth exploring for an Orzhov Blink theme. I was originally drawn to Triad of Fates but that's such a slow card and fate counters exist on, what, one other card? (Oblivion Stone, I'm lookin at you).

So I would appreciate any suggestions on a good commander in these colors! Thanks :)

Maybe one of the Ghost Councils would be best? Since they blink themselves.

Triad of fates is slow but you can make it work if you want to. There are a number of good untap effects and cards like Illusionist's Bracers.

Another option is to run a commander that you want to blink instead of a commander that blinks other creatures. Ghost Council of Orzhova and Obzedat, Ghost Council are both solid choices. I like the first one more as it becomes an aristocrat/blink and can be done once for each player at the table instead of only once per your turn.

If you are not opposed to adding a color Aminatou, the Fateshifter is crazy strong. Unlike triad you don't need enablers for her and it stays on your original idea of blinking things in the deck and opens more blinky options.

Aminatou is awesome! And I def want an Esper commander at some point. I'm not sure I'm comfortable having a P/W Commander tho :P

I already have an aristocrats deck in Jund so I don't know that I want to go that route in Orzhov. Of course the 4 CMC Ghost Council does provide some interesting ideas along the white soldier token route. Hmm...

Triad of Fates to me seems more of a token commander who provides decent (albeit a bit slow) card advantage as you can effectively Skullclamp your tokens with your commander.

As pointed out, any of the Ghost Councils will do decently as commadners, though it will be rather slow. The big issue with stuff like Obzedat, Ghost Council is that to take full advantge of hte ability you want to be able to bounce it multiple times per turn (or preferably an infinite amount) and white just does not have the level of support required for that. The closest card you have is Eldrazi Displacer but you still need to generate infinite colourless mana first. And typically most white/black decks that want to abuse ETB are going to do it via graveyard looping effects, not exile.

At the end of the day, adding blue will give you the best bang for buck if you're wanting to build a blink deck. But it's also important to ask yourself "what is the purpose of blinking for the deck?" Are you actually planning to use it to cycle cards like Gray Merchant of Asphodel to win, or are you still wanting to turn sideways and just abuse blinking for ETB value? this will dictate not only your commander but help you pick what cards you end up running in the 99.
