2 colorless, 2 green 3/3 Legendary Snow Creature - Elk

As an additional cost to cast this spell you may open a sealed Magic booster pack and put cards on the bottom of your booster pile in a random order.

Spells you cast have booster cascade (It's like cascade, but you use your booster pile rather than your library.)

Problems with card = Increases potential deck pool over 100. Casts cards outside color identity. Can find cards banned in commander and cast them. Can cast multiple times, creating huge card pool. Card is only given to employees and will be hard to obtain.

This card will be legal and the rules committee has not made a rule stating that you cannot have a booster pile in commander. Thoughts.

I mean, directly from the commander rules:

Parts of abilities which bring other card(s) you own from outside the game into the game (such as Living Wish; Spawnsire of Ulamog; Karn, the Great Creator) do not function in Commander.

So sure, you can play Myntasha as your commander. But I don't think it's worth getting worked up over. On top of this, the cards have barely been spoiled (and chances are if they follow existing cards of a similar ilk) then they won't be legal in any format.

But I definitely would wait to see what hte rules are about this before getting stressed about it.

This card will not be legal - it’s a promo card with a different card back given to select Wizards of the Coast employees and is not legal in any format.

Also, you missed a negative. It’s literally pay to win. I mean, to be fair, that is kind of EDH already in some regards, considering that cards such as Gaea’s Cradle have such high prices.

That said, I do like the idea of somehow getting ahold of one and playing it with friends who were ok with me opening a random pack. Heck, I’d open exclusively Ixylan if that was what my friends wanted. I wouldn’t play this deck for the power. Just for the fun.

Mcat1999 - You are indeed incorrect. The only cards that are legal in Magic play are cards with the Magic card back (and double faced cards). The Heroes of the Realm cards have a different design on the back, and thus are not legal in any official format.

Naturally, you could play them at kitchen table if your group agrees (and if the card has a sufficiently opaque sleeve that you can’t tell it is different).

But these cards also do not go through the same process for card design. They are designed for flavor, not gameplay, and are not really checked for balancing or fairness. Basically, they’re glorified cards from player-made card creation, and generally just as poorly designed. I would imagine most playgroups would not let you use them. Even if the group does, they are kind of “funny once” cards, and even the most permissible of groups would likely tire of them quite quickly.

https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/mnrnyt/h19_myntasha_honored_one/ There's a link . . . it's not letting me format it and I don't know why . . .

It's gonna be $200+ and even if it was legal, there's no way anyone you meet will have a copy. Outside of proxies, this just won't be seen. Anywhere outside of a glass box after being sold.

TriusMalarky - the only folks who are going to get copies of this card are those in the main Modern Horizons 1.0 team--I am not sure what Wizards is defining as the team, but Magic Wiki has some 14 people listed. There might be other support staff that is provided copies of the card in addition to the core development team. Anyway, we are probably looking at a couple dozen copies of the card maximum.

While the lack of playability in any format is going to keep them from ballooning to Alpha Black Lotus levels, I think it is fair to say that $200+ is a huge lowball. These cards are probably never going to go on the market, unless the owner is hard up for money or the pass away and their estate wants to offload the piece of cardboard. The demand for these might not be huge, but the supply is going to be effectively non-existent. There simply is not enough data on Heroes of the Realms cards to accurately price it, but I think it is fair to say the interested collector is going to be prepared to spend a couple thousand on them.

(As for your question about links, links have to be manually enabled on an account-by-account basis. I have gone ahead and done so, so you should be able to post links and images now.)

(oh thanks)

Imagine breaking into a WotC employee's house . . . and just . . . getting a bunch of Heroes of the Realm cards.

Actually don't, that's illegal.

Shichifukujin Dragon and 1996 World Champion are unique. Probably the best equivalent is the Holiday cards, like Topdeck the Halls .

These are special little gifts, not for public consumption. Not saying you can't build around them, but you're probably not going to get a paper copy.
