Mothra & Mono White (SPOILERS)

Commander (EDH) forum

Ikoria's spoilers are ROLLING in. If you haven't seen, and don't want to, please stop reading.

Right now many cards have Godzilla alternates, and one such card is Luminous Broodmoth.

Luminous Broodmoth 2WW Creature - Insect Flying Whenever a creature you control without flying dies, return it to the battlefield under its owner's control with a flying counter on it. 3/4

When spoiled, this was Mothra, Supersonic Queen and the original card had not dropped yet, leading many to assume this was LEGENDARY and as such, a viable Commander. The excitement! The refreshing take on Mono White! The... disappointment realizing it isn't viable.

So my questions to you: 1. Who would allow Mothra to be a legal Commander in your playgroup? 2. Is this sort of reanimator a worthwhile direction for Mono White commander?

I'm torn on the allowing Mothra as a commander not because this card is broken but because it opens up allowing other cool non legendary creatures as commanders from this set or others. I would lean towards allowing the named ones be commanders. It would be fun to have a monster fight using these regardless for a game night.

If white isn't going to get card draw then they need more reanimator effects and need to be more efficient then black. Maybe give black more sac a creature to return a creature and/or the creature comes back as a zombie token that has abilities or as an aura that exiles after death. Where white just gets the creature back for just mana.

It breaks Solemnity. I wish it were legendary.

Pervavita IMO I'd only allow the version of this that IS Mothra.

Raging_Squiggle it breaks it farrrrr less than Heliod, Sun-Crowned broke things haha.

Lifegain ain't it for MW and something like this was super intriguing and exciting. Womp.

This is a great direction for white it already had similar theme with creatures dying and getting a token but this is a way better version and this mechanic can so be broken in commander persistent and this mixed with Solemnity

This would be a great card in decks using Teysa Karlov and similar type effects

Commanders decks utilizing reanimated loops have a very impressive new toy. Saffi Ericksdotter, Blood Artist and company will very much enjoy this card. Potential Hulk pile candidate, for example: With a Hapless Researcher in play Flash Hulk can simply search for this card and Fishacle to win. Self sacrificing creature loops are extremely strong potential combo options, the altars (phyrexian and ashnod’s) and potentially KCI pair nicely with it, any other creature in play and Blasting Station is a combo win.

There would be a ton of combo potential with this card for commander if released with that wording.

Oh, but the creatures have to lose flying after recursion to keep sacrificing for a loop, hmmm. That poses a problem. Ok, so less strong than it might seem at first glance. Still very interesting.

jaymc1130 I think that's why Solemnity is so appealing

So it's agreed then. We'll play Mothra in a UW commander shell with Flash + Thassa's Oracle, Academy Rector, Hapless Researcher, Alchemist's Apprentice, Phyrexian Altar, Ashnod's Altar, and Blasting Station and break the card before it's even been released. Glad we settled that. Easy peasy.

I’m thinking Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle EDH with this for even more graveyard recursion shenanigans.
