LIfelink and prevention

What are some cards I can use to prevent people from making me lose my lifelink or lifegain, like cards such as Rampaging Ferocidon ?

Grubbernaut says... #2

Spot removal is going to be better than cards dedicated solely to combating anti-lifegain. How many removal spells are you running?

Here's my deck. I don't know if what I have would count as removal, but I plan on adding more to it.

A lot of those effects will be coming from enchantments, and some from creatures, so I would recommend something like Banishing Light . The up-side of that is red (it’s generally going to be red preventing your lifegain) isn’t great at dealing with enchantment-style removal.

I'm curious about the deck you are referring to because its cmdr is boros and the deck is bant. Is there something I'm missing here?

The best you can do is just run more board wipes. You're a spellslinger deck, so they're your best friend. The new one, Slash the Ranks , is great, because your commander is so expensive. On that note, are Firesong and Sunspeaker your real commanders, or just a stand-in? Your deck's three colors, and they're only two.

I'm new to Commander. I didn't know that the commander's color identity had to match all cards that are used. -_- Sucks! Can I use multicolored that have one of not my commanders color, but one of blue? Or must all of them be only red and white?

I meant to say 'a multicolored of one of my commander's color, but one of not my commander's color'?

In edh your cmdr has a "color identity" these colors are found in its casting cost and its text box. So for instance Yasova Dragonclaw is to cast but has both in its text box so its color identity is .

You can not use cards with other colors on them outside of the cmdrs color identity including hybrid mana such as Shield of the Oversoul .

You are aloud to use cards that say the color outside of your identity like fetch lands and things like Desecrated Tomb but don't show the color. Bye show I mean the mana symbol or or

You can not run cards that are colorless but say on them that they are all colors like Transguild Courier . Cards like this are only aloud in 5 color decks.

Cards like Witness the End that have devoid to make them have no color are not aloud in a deck with a cmdr that does not contain in it's identity

Oh and one more thing. The keyword "extort" found on Crypt Ghast and other cards like This card with extort do not have both colors black and white because extort is a keyword the found in the text box is a "reminder text". Cards with reminder text have perenticies --> ( ) and reminder text dont have to be on the card so Crypt Ghast 's color identity is black and only black.

Ahh thanks griffstick. I want to find a good jeskai commander based around aikido. Any help with that?

Well, Kykar, Wind's Fury triggers off of your aikido pieces, creates chump blockers, and helps you ramp up to get more and more of your things online. For an easier suggestion, though, it's definitely Zedruu the Greathearted . You can give away harmful things and useless cards like Dualcaster Mage , or some more Zedruu-specific shenanigans if you decide to build your deck that way.

Could I use Narset of the Ancient Way as my commander?

April 16, 2021 6:57 p.m.

griffstick says... #14

No it has to be a creature unless specified on the card that is can be your cmdr.

I mean if you want my advise, use Kykar, Wind's Fury or Elsha of the Infinite as your cmdr. These would give you a good platform to build from.

You could also drop the blue and add black and use Queen Marchesa as your cmdr. She's pretty well know as the most commonly use aikido cmdr. If anyone wants to plug in a deck list go ahead.

I have a beginner's question to ask. Why is Elsha of the Infinite 's ability better than casting from hand? And what are the benefits of having her as commander?

April 17, 2021 7:22 p.m.

libraryjoy says... #18

Elsha's ability is better because it extends your hand. You have cards in hand PLUS the one on the top of your library that you can play. Even more than one if you play one off the top of your library and then another one you can play shows up on the top. The benefits of having her as commander are #1, an extension of your hand, similar to card draw and #2, Prowess, which allows your spells to buff her power and toughness, and put you in range of killing someone with commander damage (21 points of damage from the same commander). So definitely a good option.

Some people are also running Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis as an aikido commander, for what it's worth.

You can play cards from the top of your library in addition to the cards in your hand and she Grant's you an ability to play more cards a instant speed. Just so as long as they are cast from the top of your library
