How Good is Tamiyo, Field Researcher in EDH?

I have Tamiyo, Field Researcher in two of my EDH decks: my green/white/blue deck and my proliferate deck, and she is in both deck primarily for her final ability, because it is such an awesome ability, but I am wondering if she is a good card, overall, for this format.

I definitely am keeping her in my Atraxa deck, because of that deck's focus on proliferation, but I am less certain about the other deck, since that deck does not have much support for planeswalkers, making her feel more as if I put her in there simply because the deck supported her colors and for any true synergy with the deck's overall theme.

What does everyone else say about this? How good is Tamiyo, Field Researcher in EDH, and should I keep her in my green/white/blue deck?

If you want to keep her in the Bant deck I would just add some proliferate sources, especially since they fit with your commander for the deck anyway, and your real reason for including her here is her ULT anyway.

So think like Karn's Bastion, Evolution Sage, and/or Flux Channeler (you run enough noncreature spells this may be viable)

There are other options, these are just easily reusable outlets to consider.

If this seems like too much work, then yeah, I would just cut her out and fill in something that seems a better fit overall.

Massacar, I have all of those cards in my Atraxa deck, so it would be easier to simply remove Tamiyo from my green/white/blue deck than to drastically redesign the deck to accommodate her, and I thank you for your feedback.

Don't run Planeswalkers only for their Ult if you can't quicken the amount of time it takes to get to said Ult, or defend them pretty airtightly

Omniscience_is_life, yes, that is exactly why planeswalkers are very sparse in my EDH decks; only my Atraxa deck has more than a single planeswalker.

She is a good walker her plus one makes her at least cycle herself. Her -2 is pretty bad, but it can tap down a big creature or a Bloom Tender. Her ultimate makes her really good though. Overall, I think that she is a worthy inclusion in most decks, but is exceptionally good in superfriends or proliferate decks.

You can go infinite spellslinging with her ultimate. So she is great in a deck built around her and abusing her ultimate. I agree she's a good include for superfriends and/or proliferate decks.

smackjack, I do have that card in my Atraxa deck.

King_marchesa, MagicMarc, yes, that is very true; my Atraxa deck is built specifically to synergize with planeswalkers, but my other deck is not, so I do not feel that Tamiyo is a good match for it.

Combine her with Vigilance creatures and the +1 might draw you multiple cards per turncycle, because people will have to try and attack Tamiyo to keep her from ulting.

plakjekaas, all of my EDH decks contain Akroma's Memorial, but there is no guarantee that I shall draw it and Tamiyo within close proximity to each other in any game.

The only deck I run Akroma's Memorial in is my favorite white deck: Totes My Goats.

Adding the boosts from the memorial to a battlefield filled with Goat tokens is a lot of fun.

DemonDragonJ: I just realized you said, All of your EDH decks, right?

What is the reason for that? Love of the card? Types of decks you play? The only way you can put Akroma, Angel of Wrath in every deck you have without splashing white? Or is it a staple you just add to everything?

MagicMarc: I think Akroma's Memorial is one of those cards that a lot of casual EDH players are just drawn to becuase it has lots of writing on it.

DemonDragonJ: I would swap it for Bident of Thassa. You should basically never judge a planeswalker on its ult and Bident gives you better card advantage than Tamiyo does.

MagicMarc, I am fond of that card because of how it gives so many keywords to all my creatures, and all of my desk, thus far, have a sufficient number of creatures to justify its inclusion (which is why I really hope that WotC reprints it, soon, since it has become expensive), but I currently am building a deck that emphasizes non-creature spells over creatures (with Elsha of the Infinite as the general), so I may not have the memorial in that deck.

Eeeeh. + reads "maybe draw 2 cards", and if you're using it on your own creatures I'd recommend the new Kaldheim squirrel over her.

She really can't protect herself, meaning that she becomes a big target. Also, her ultimate is really good -- meaning she becomes a target. So What she'll often do is draw 2 cards and then die.

If she doesn't die immediately, then only her ult is worth anything.
