Getting into cEDH

Got into mtg for my wife and I ended up really enjoying the game.

My wife and her play group are huge into high powered deck and I thought I would do something nice for them and pick up a more competitive deck (they all got precons when I started and we've been having casual games for months so I thought spicing things up a bit would be nice for them).

I was thinking about picking up a semi-competitive deck (I don't have the budget for super competitive deck) just to hang out with them and have a chance to win at least.

You might want to check and make sure that they do in fact play cEDH and not higher powered casual or "casually competitive". There is a VERY wide range of possible intensities to EDH and you just named the two extremes. Once you do that, you are going to probably want to build a mono-colored cEDH deck since multi-color mana bases get expensive quickly.

Godo, Bandit Warlord could be pretty easy to build on a budget. Helm of the Host lets him get infinite combats. The basic idea of the deck is to ramp to 11 mana, cast him, equip the helm, give him haste, and win. I will be glad to help more if you are 100% sure what level they are playing at.

The 3 deck she uses the most when they get together is Kenrith, she has one with Tymna and Thrasios the last one is the codex guy.

Hmm Cody isn't super competitive in my opinion but the other two are considered the top in terms of competitive commanders. I second the mono color idea for cost but keep in mind against four and five color decks your interaction and ability to win against them will be low. At minimum I would do a 2 color deck for competitive with the exception of Urza, Lord High Artificer others like Godo, Bandit Warlord, Selvala, Heart of the Wilds, Yisan, Wanderer Bard and K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth are super explosive but, being in one color makes them into glass canons. What kind of budget are you working with? And do you have any ideas on how/what you want to play?

Ojallday I made a Nicol Bolas discard theme which I enjoyed playing a lot. I love the idea of limiting the resources my opponents have. I like looking weak and then coming in for the kill shot or unleashing big disruption out of nowhere.

I currently have at the most 1k at my disposal. Wouldn't mind if I didn't have to spend that much but I'm aware that many decks can go for 10 times that so I guess I don't mind spending a bit for it.

If you’re going with stax, i’ve found Aminatou, the Fateshifter to be an awesome commander. I’ve got a list which might give you some fun ideas. not super strong but can hold its own against cEDH decks.

OjalldayYou mentioned 2 colors would be more competitive. Which pairing would you recommend?

The_War_Mammoth Simic or blue/green have a lot of low cost synergies and combos that go for easy wins like taking turns or Birthing Pod strategies. But if you enjoy stax and control then I highly recommend Urza, Lord High Artificer he has strong synergy with cards like Winter Orb, Static Orb, Trinisphere and Back to Basics. To win with him you assemble infinate mana through a couple different options Dramatic Reversal + Isochron Scepter , Basalt Monolith + Rings of Brighthearth , Grim Monolith + Power Artifact or Basalt Monolith this let's you draw your deck with his ability and traditionally you use Thassa's Oracle or Laboratory Maniac to end it. Being in blue also gives you access to counterspells which is where most of you control will come from. Some of the artifacts and combo pieces may be expensive for him though, but another option though in 3 colors is Zur the Enchanter he let's you play a spell for free when he hits letting you grab Stasis, Rule of Law or Spirit of the Labyrinth to punish opponents winning involves swinging zur until you kill each opponent with coleander damage. Also you can run Necropotence to draw your deck out and win via Thassa's Oracle, obviously he is in blue so counter spells will go a long way to control your opponents.

I found this deck online Show me the tiger If anyone could give me suggestions to give it a little more power or new cards that could be good in it (the deck is like 2+yo).
