Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief ~VS~ Anowon, the Ruin Sage as a general.

Thinking of a mono black vampire deck. still thinking. Any ideas for something like this are welcome.

doen right, anowan can be like Braids, Cabal Minion . And she's banned as a general. the ruin sage has plenty more potential for abuse.

Ruin sage would be the better general. Should probably include both in the deck though.

Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief is ridiculous. She's a kill spell on a stick that gets through indestructible, and it is very easy to win with her through general damage. I have an EDH deck with her as my general and she is awesome.

Just to clarify- it's a mono black control filled with combos, kill spells, life loss, and mean creatures, it isn't vampire based.

Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief is clearly the better general. She allows far more freedom with your build, and she also gives you a kill ability whenever she's in play. Anowon, the Ruin Sage almost forces you to play Vampire tribal or otherwise sac your own creatures. Plus, you have no control over what your opponent sacs.

@Epochalyptik

Could Anowon, the Ruin Sage be used to abuse creatures that have some effect when they die? I feel like there are at least a few of those in black.

Including things like Blood Artist and Butcher of Malakir could also be fun.

@Timekeeper: While the answer is technically yes, Anowon is an extremely slow sac engine and he isn't good for much else. Sheoldred, Whispering One is better. Black and artifacts have a plethora of effective sac engines that can be and are more effective than Anowon.

Flying? Check. Greater toughness? Check. Directed removal? Check. I vote Drana all the way, but of course, play how you wanna play! Commander is the format for freedom and playing the cards that you want to, as opposed to what competitive dictates...unless you're going competitive, but I won't open that can of worms.

Just a side note, imagine the devastating fun you could have with Illusionist's Bracers and Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief .
