Deck concept: indestructible

My latest brew idea is an indestructible tribal deck that just has indestructible creatures or otherwise tries to make your stuff as hard to kill as possible. I can't decide between making this deck Boros or Mardu. Do y'all have any thoughts about this?

Oh yea I built that. Super fun. I used Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker as the cmdr. It worked. It's fun but its mono white. It's slow and you'll run out of cards. So its casual as hell

I think there should be a reason you want them to be indestructible. Do you want them to have static effects like hate bears? Or perhaps just to turn sideways every turn? If the latter you might want to add an 'extra combats' theme.

Mardu opens up more options. Zurgo Helmsmasher is the poster boy for this archetype.

Gotta have some protection in there too.

I went and put together a purely thematic Boros list just now, I'll start working on a more competitive Mardu list with what y'all have said. Thanks for the feedback! Looks like I have a few decks to brew around this archetype.

I would look at using the indestructible as your win condition. You can easily have a deck using the ones that will win you games as well.

Stuffy Doll, of course. There is also a new one, Brash Taunter. Just blocking with the taunter can win games. But you would be better off with adding big burn spells in the deck. Stuff like Shivan Meteor. Another doll, Creepy Doll, helps kill creatures while being indestructible.

Lastly, if you splash or use white in the deck, Elspeth, Knight-Errant's ultimate is crazy.

God tribal with Child of Alara at the helm?

To add onto MagicMarc, Pairing Stuffy Doll or Brash Taunter with Pariah can be a nasty combo.

Frankenstein time.

Why not go with a Zurgo Helmsmasher list where 100% of your creatures have Indestructible. Using the aforementioned Stuffy Doll, Creepy Doll, Brash Taunter and cards like Darksteel Myr, Hazoret the Fervent, Oketra the True and Bontu the Glorified, you can build quite the board state.

Then, have a high density of wrath effects -- Red ones are better cos they deal damage to your Taunters and such. You can keep the board clear of everything except your crazy indestructible thingamabobs.

Then, Pariah and Pariah's Shield to create damage locks. Pair one of those with Arcbond and block a big ol' Hoofie (:

Use the stupid combo of Terra Eternal to prevent Worldslayer from being Armageddon. Or use Boros Charm and laugh.

Looks like I have a 4th deck to build, since I already did a Boros proof of concept build, a mono-white stax-hatebears/control list that's less on theme, and a Mardu list that's between the two in terms of competitiveness.

I'm throwing it out there but what about indestructible. Having boros seems like a requirement from the general consensus. Add blue and you've opened your self up to Clone's

TriusMalarky that deck really sounds like it would be the best way to build this deck. But do you really need zurgo as the cmdr.

Zurgo's on-theme. He's not great, but he's on-theme, so I ran with it.

griffstick: Jeskai is a good way to go +1. You lose Zurgo but add utility. I don't know if Clone would be that desirable. Your creatures are going to stick around unless an exile sweep happens. But adding a control suite and card advantage would make it pretty mean.

But I also like the idea of using Zurgo Helmsmasher in the deck. If you go the fight route with Stuffy Doll and Brash Taunter then Zurgo is a great fight target for them. Assuming you are using the board wipe shell then Zurgo will always be around to abuse the fight ability with your other creatures. Activate Brash Taunter targeting your own Zurgo and you will be popping your opponent in their end step for at least 7 unless Zurgo has already killed stuff on the table. And then it goes up, making a pretty fast clock.

Gideon's Sacrifice + Arcbond
on any indestructible creature

Ramble, that is beautiful. Deflecting Palm can do a similar thing to some of these combos.

"Not only my minions, but I also am indestructible. Fight me" is looking like a fun deck.

griffstick says... #23

Yea and with damage doublers like Dictate of the Twin Gods, it doubles after each redirection.

October 9, 2020 9:03 p.m.

TriusMalarky says... #24

Oh jeebs. You can easily do some shenanigans by doubling everybody's damage. If only Fiery Emancipation applied to everyone... oh wait it doesn't matter.

Curse of the Nightly Hunt, Aggravate, Anthem of Rakdos, Chandra's Ignition :)

MagicMarc says... #25

Brash Taunter and stuff like Fiery Emancipation can get gratuitous fairly quick.

This is not based on indestructible as the main focus, but it does abuse the taunter and emancipation:

RambIe: Very Nice!

I don't see any "may" on those cards. Better make sure you have the highest life total at the table when that goes off. Or some way to interrupt it. Nice combo.

So I think the best option is to have the partners Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder and Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker. And have lots of indestructible effects in the deck.

I threw something together really fast. It's a template or possible future deck. Indestructibility baby

griffstick Why not something more spell related like Kykar, Wind's Fury or Elsha of the Infinite? I feel like they could be more beneficial being that most of the spells supporting the strategy are Noncreature.

October 10, 2020 7:36 a.m.

griffstick says... #30

I chose them because I liked the idea of them both being indestructible and swinging for tons of damage in the air and gaining tons of life. Plus as some people mentioned before, having the most like is important.

There's also Darksteel Juggernaut if you plan to run quite a few artifacts.

I made a Tajic, Blade of the Legion indestructible/Worldslayer equipment deck with all the wraths/MLD cards in Boros. I used all of the equipment tutors and their associated support cards like Brass Squire, ect. It worked great but wouldn't say super competitive but if you get a MLD card off usually it would win. The wraths were just the clear the board for a Worldslayer swing and it wouldn't matter which indestructible critter was equipped. His Battalion trigger wasn't too hard to activate with all the indestructible critters on the field. Inquisitor's Flail is very one-sided here. (Tajic and His Dolls to old deck: note not updated in 4 years with plenty I would change)

There's also Boros Reckoner, Mogg Maniac, Spitemare, Truefire Captain, Coalhauler Swine (though prohibitive cost) that can be used for some fun. Not indestructible by any means but act like mini Repercussions. Funny to use Inquisitor's Flail with.
