Aggro advice

Hey,

I'm looking for a commander deck that can inflict a huge amount damage either from combat or burn (with stuff like Braid of Fire + Furnace of Rath + Pyrohemia type of thing). Obviously is a huge requirement for it either a mono-colored or up to 3 color deck (NOTHING WITH and not anything else is fine as long as it has ).

Feast your eyes and be amazed by my pile of jank XD. May not be competitive, but it can be a load of fun. May even give you some ideas, or maybe it's not your cup o' tea... but here it be anyway.

Xenagos, God of Revels makes a really fun aggro deck for commander.

I'd recommend Neheb, the Eternal, Aurelia, the Warleader, or Feather, the Redeemed. I generally advise against pure aggro or burn strategies but any of these three can make them efficient enough to take down a table by yourself.

I am a huge fan of Trynn, Champion of Freedom and Silvar, Devourer of the Free. Because of all the great new board protecting stuff in white you can actually hard-cast cheap good creatures and protect them from board wipes with great cards like Cosmic Intervention, Flawless Maneuver and the like, the token/aristocrats subtheme gives you synergy with black card draw strategies like Morbid Opportunist and white weenie ones like Welcoming Vampire as well as giving you fuel for fun toys like Eldrazi Monument. It's just a lot of fun and so much stronger than I expected (I was trying to make a lower power and more "fair" aggro deck for my playgroup). My list is below if you're curious. I'll probably write a primer for it someday but haven't gotten to that one yet.

I should also add that if you want to do both aggro and burn Feather, the Redeemed does both and I also play her, so kudos to DrukenReaps for that suggestion. I will say that playing Feather is tougher getting the right balance, whereas Trynn and Silvar plays a little more like a straightforward aggro deck. If you're curious about Feather my deck is here. The description is outdated as I am running more of the established token theme than I used to, but the list is accurate. I'd also recommend checking out the excellent primer by Control_Train who is pretty much the authority on Feather if you want to run her.

I have seen Greven, Predator Captain decks that can do a ton of commander damage at a time, but haven't played it myself, so don't know a ton about it. Though, I imagine with stuff like Necropotence or Toxic Deluge or K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth it could be nuts. May just need things like Shadowspear to keep you alive. And you could maybe even run Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord and Maskwood Nexus combo because Sorin looks generally all kinds of alright in Greven.

Meh, it could be good. Would be a bit of a different damage style deck, for sure : )

Niko9 JLK from the Command Zone made a Greven deck and was fairly big on it. I'm sure his build is out there somewhere as a starting place. It's also one of those decks that's fairly cheap because the cards that are amazing in it are bad everywhere else.

Guerric Nice! I'm gonna be honest, I kind of forgot about Game Knights until you mentioned it right now. I probably have so many episodes to see. Might have to take some vacay days and catch up, especially if there is a Greven deck tech somewhere : ) But really, I've definitely been watching more cEDHtv lately. Even though I don't play C, I really do think that they do the best deck breakdowns and explanations.

Niko9 Yeah, CZ moved away from the deck tech a bit, but they still do good set reviews and provide analysis of all the commanders in a set. I think the explanation of Greven was probably from the precon upgrade video. He might have played in on Extra Turns though, which is like scaled down Game Knights without Wizards sponsorship (hence they play their own decks).

Guerric That's awesome, I didn't realize they were still doing Extra Turns. The extra turns with Wedge and the Prof is one of my favorite games to watch : )

I'll definitely have to check it out. Completely honestly, I struggle a little when they do precons on Game Knights. I really like what I Hate Your Deck does with a constantly swapping group of guests and decks. Maybe it's just me, but I kind of like seeing when they do play the same deck again against a different group. Definitely leads to some of those moments where you think, Ohhh...oh this deck is way more clever than I thought it was.

But I'm just glad that there is a lot of different channels out there. I'm the kind of person who doesn't care so much about the production value, as long as I can follow the game, and always way more into people facing off with the decks they enjoy building and playing. Game Knights will always be the king of looks, but my favorite episodes were like the first few : )

This all being said, Jimmy always does an amazing job, in my opinion. I like that he can take time off and come in with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. At very least, I need to catch up on Jimmy episodes now, and thanks for reminding me of it!
