Contemplating a New Deck

Commander (EDH) forum

I'm thinking of building new deck. Something that can stand up well in a league. I've got Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge and Kaalia of the Vast in mind at the moment. Any ideas are welcome.

Find a new group or stop being a "whiner". You have control over who you play with. If they're bad, spiteful players, fine new groups to play with or just deal brah. It's part of edh. There will be the cry babies, the spiteful bastards, the arrogant a-holes, the quiet timmy's, the hopeless helga's, the stupid steve's...it's just how people are.

I not being a whiner. I needed to vent and felt much better for it (though I'm still royally mad).

And I already know it's EDH. I knew everything I was getting into. I'm just really annoyed that someone had to have horrid threat assessment.

Oh, and I have no control over who's in my group. It's random.

  1. "tapped his Ancient Tomb, killing himself. I was really annoyed and called him out for being a coward afterwards." he wasn't being a coward. He was conceeding in a humorous way. You were being an asshole

  2. I'm sorry to say this but you've flown past salty and straight into bitchy territory. If you win games, you get targeted. That is the nature of political games. Knuckle up and play the best you can, even if that means going 3v1. It can be done. I've seen it done.

Well, fair enough. I suppose I lost sight of myself then.

I guess now I just might pack up my other deck and move to a new one for the time being.

I feel your pain. My playgroup, who's members are static, is very spiteful, lacks any form of threat assessment, and doesn't play politics at all. Many games I've been killed off as the weakest player when someone else can literally kill a player in a turn. I've had people kill themselves before like that and normally it's just as a joke because we acknowledge we lost. Scooping is an issue because some people do it to interrupt a person's plan, but I put a stop to that because it is just childish. And yeah I've experienced that whole "you're playing this deck therefor die", and that'll never not piss me off.

In the end though, you have to deal with it, as sucky as it is. I'm sorry that it happens, because that kind of behavior does leave a bad taste in people's mouths. I'd say address it, but if it's a rotating group I don't know how to really fix it :/.

I can understand being upset at peeople targeting you when they are just being salty but getting upset that they killed themselves with their own ancient tomb is just ridiculous. What is so less manly about killing yourself in a multiplayer game that you know you cant win? I think that is really unnecessary to get upset that someone wouldnt let you kill them.

I'll admit the Ancient Tomb thing was OTT. But the rest...sigh I just want to move forward and drop the whole thing.

Kaalia can be exciting and fast, but to get a lock down on your opponents and keep them from being reactive while shes on the table you gotta play land destruction. That will get you hated.

Jeleva is fun. I got a tribal vamp deck with her as commander where I use Scroll Rack to set up the top of my deck for when I cast her. My version probably isn't good enough for tournament or league play, but that's cool by me as I use Zur the Enchanter for that. I recommend him or Uril, the Miststalker.

You could play Brago, King Eternal stax to piss off those that pissed you off. There is also Derevi, Empyrial Tactician I've seen played against me to great effect.

DeathChant17: I almost finished Uril but I'm tossing between him and Zurgo Helmsmasher. Marchesa, the Black Rose is an old favorite of mine too. Hmmm...

I'd go Uril out of all of them, though Marchesa is one that seems cool. I picked one up awhile back and just haven't built it yet.

Mostly cause you can go infinite combat phases with Aggravated Assault + Bear Umbra .

I could...but then I hear Alesha, Who Smiles at Death screaming at me to build her. Quite frankly, I'm tempted.

Lol, choose six commanders, number them and roll a dice.

I've always thought of alesha as more of a 1 vs 1 commander.

About Alesha: Really? How so?

About the D6: Maybe. I'll try it and see.

Because the small creatures needed to fulfill her power of 2 ability. I can see her wasting your opponent in 1 vs 1. Multi-player would be harder to build around her I think.

If I were to run her I'd try to go along the lines of white hate bears and goblin goodstuff. I.e. Goblin Rabblemaster. Or now that I think about it, Dragonmaster Outcast. Play that with haste enablers...
