Sakashima of a Thousand Faces + Reyhan, Last of the Abzan EDH Card Help

Commander Deck Help forum

Posted on Nov. 10, 2020, 9:44 a.m. by KorvoldMizzet

Y'all, I need help building this deck, I have the best colors for clones, now I just need some broken, stackable legendary (and non-legendary) creatures, please bring it at me!

The reason I am committed to Sultai is for Dimir cards like Evil Twin and simic cards like Progenitor Mimic

My reason for choosing Reyhan, Last of the Abzan, is for the situation that my opponents have nothing good to copy and I can just go off with stackable +1/+1 counters and win off commander damage.

Once I build the deck IRL, I will post the decklist here, and then close the thread, I appreciate the help!

(I'm not talking card recs like Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Cyclonic Rift or any other staples, I'm looking for niche cards that will make for a fun/unique play experience)

(Also, I already know about all the other clone cards, so pls don't recommend cards like Progenitor Mimic)

Cards like: Soul Foundry, Mimic Vat, Nezahal, Primal Tide, Lithoform Engine and Experiment Kraj

One obvious pick is The Mimeoplasm, you can also go full combo with Buried Alive + Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon + Worldspine Wurm for a 19/19 hasty flying infected creature and win on the spot.

Lord of Extinction seems like a must-include too.

I like your thought process! I also really like the Buried Alive combo, though Worldspine Wurm can't actually be buried alive, you could go for Impervious Greatwurm

Scute Swarm gets insane when copied, you'll need like 15 calculators for that

If Reyhan, Last of the Abzan is part of your plan, Pir, Imaginative Rascal and Toothy, Imaginary Friend seem like excellent inclusions to copy/put the counters on.

Blade of Selves copies Reyhan, Last of the Abzan for 18x +1+1 counters either immediately w/o Saka or end of turn with Sakashima out. I'm pasting this from my Reyhan/Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker deck just to give you an idea of how broken this card can get... then picture Rite of Replication kicked.

Mathing is Hard! All math based on 4 players and for the Blade of Selves combo found in the next section, plus the cards listed in each section below.

Note: Master Biomancer and Bramblewood Paragon need to be figured separately as they only add counters when Reyhans enter, not when she moves counters. Good-Fortune Unicorn doesn't work with the below combos.

Blade of Selves on Reyhan, Last of the Abzan - Two tokens are created with counters. They leave the battlefield and six instances of placing counters are created.

6x3=18 counters in 6 increments of 3 counters.

Hardened Scales, Winding Constrictor, AND/OR Pir, Imaginative Rascal - Two tokens are created with counters. They leave the battlefield and six instances of placing counters are created. One, Two, or Three counters are added (or more, respectively) both on creation and on trigger resolution.

With 1 = 30 counters in 6 increments of 5 counters.

With 2 = 42 counters in 6 increments of 7 counters.

With 3 = 54 counters in 6 increments of 9 counters.

+12 Counters for each additional counter.

Corpsejack Menace Only - Two tokens are created with counters. They leave the battlefield and six instances of placing counters are created. Counters are doubled both on creation and on trigger resolution.

6(2(2(3)))=72 counters in 6 increments of 12 counters.

Doubling Season Only - Four tokens are created with counters. They leave the battlefield and twenty instances of placing counters are created. Counters are doubled both on creation and on trigger resolution.

20(2(2(3)))=240 counters in 20 increments of 12 counters.

Corpsejack Menace AND Doubling Season - Four tokens are created with counters. They leave the battlefield and twenty instances of placing counters are created. Counters are quadrupled both on creation and on trigger resolution.

20(4(4(3)))=960 counters in 20 increments of 48 counters.

Corpsejack Menace AND Doubling Season AND Pir, Imaginative Rascal, Hardened Scales, AND/OR Winding Constrictor (aka Magical Christmas Land) - Four tokens are created with counters. They leave the battlefield and twenty instances of placing counters are created. One, Two, or Three counters (or more, respectively) are added and then counters are quadrupled both on creation and on trigger resolution.

With 1 - 20(4(4(3+1)+1))=1360 counters in 20 increments of 68 counters.

With 2 - 20(4(4(3+2)+2))=1760 counters in 20 increments of 88 counters.

With 3 - 20(4(4(3+3)+3))=2160 counters in 20 increments of 108 counters.

+400 counters for each additional counter.

Last_Laugh I see you did some quick math.

So, since you are playing Sultai, some reanimation strategies and their creatures are really useful. Reanimate and Exhume are the best in the game, alongside Animate Dead and friends. The reason why these are good is because if you manage to reanimate a big threat quickly and start cloning those threats, even if the threat is removed you probably have a million copies of it.

Grave Titan is powerful, with the potential to end games by itself if left unchecked. If you have lots of copies, however, you could win in 2-3 turns easy.

Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger's mill ability is very strong, even in commander. A few clones and you got the game in the bag.

Baleful Force and similar cards are very good, giving you lots of card advantage.

Sower of Temptation just gets really mean with clones. (At the same time, it gets impossible to track who stole what, or, more accurately, what stole what. Now, where's my hat?)

Cloning a Gray Merchant of Asphodel will close a game.

Avatar of Woe can prevent your opponents from playing magic, and good ol' Blightsteel Colossus is going to lose you all your friends plus one.

Gilder Bairn, Maulfist Revolutionary and proliferate cards are very good with counters, getting scary quick. Heroes' Bane is such a cool card, and it's always funny seeing someone grow their hydra into mega thicc mode. I did this, and ran out of dice. I borrowed the store's dice, but they ran out too.

Finally, Branching Evolution and Primal Vigor are must removes.

Based on the comments above, I'm sure the deck will turn out to be very good, and you might even lose a friend or two when playing magic!

Destroyerbirb Had some help with the actual equations and a bit of the math totals heh.

@OP Blade of Selves can be a commander damage kill as early as turn 3. T1 Sol Ring (or Mana Crypt if you've got one). Sol Ring then pays for Blade. T2 Reyhan. T3 equip to Reyhan and swing. The Reyhan copies immediately die to the legend rule and you move those 18 counters (6 counters seen and replaced by each of the 3 Reyhans) to your equipped Reyhan for exactly 21 commander damage. Little Rey of Ishine (Reyhan/Ishai 2.7 cmc) for reference and ideas.

Last_Laugh With sakashima out and reyhan equipped with the Blade of Selves and attacking, because of sakashima, the reyhan tokens would not die due to the legend rule. so my question is do you still get the die triggers at the end of turn? because the blade says to exile the copies and not sacrifice.

Last_Laugh says... #13

You'd have to sacrifice (or whatever) the tokens before end of turn with Sakashima out because no, you wouldn't get the counters if they're exiled. Without Sakashima it's an immediate sacrifice to the legend rule.

Thanks, I put together a deck with these commanders and wanted clarification. Clone Countdown is my take on these guys if you wanted to check it out KorvoldMizzet.
