Oracle of Thassa or Farhaven Elf?

Commander Deck Help forum

In my Chulane, Teller of Tales EDH deck, I have a copy of Thassa's Oracle as an alternate win condition, but I feel that the oracle is good only in decks that are specifically designed to take advantage of it, so I am contemplating replacing that creature with another creature, and my ideal choice is Farhaven Elf , which shall provide redundancy with Wood Elves as an additional source of mana acceleration; the elf does have a higher mana cost, but I feel that it is a better card overall for the deck.

What does everyone else say about this? Should I replace Thassa's Oracle with Farhaven Elf ?

If you have no Infinite Mana + Kor Skyfisher -like combo, and want to win just with value and many bodies, then go with the Elf. Even with considerable card advantage like Chulane, games seldom go long enough to "fairly" draw your deck and win coincidentally with the Oracle. I wouldn't give a slot in my deck to Thassa's Oracle if I didn't intentionally play to win with it.

I'd phrase it as a " Shrieking Drake -like combo" instead of the way plakjekaas phrased it (since my Chulane doesn't make infinite mana or run Kor Skyfisher ), but I fully agree with the point. If you are not combo winning with Thoracle, there is not really a reason to run it.

plakjekaas, Gidgetimer, thank you, very much, for your feedback, and I have replaced the oracle with the elf.
