Oh the possibilities that could be; a need for strength

Commander Deck Help forum

Greetings,

I am looking for suggestions that could tighten up my deck a bit. I can feel the loose holes, but I keep finding excuses to keep cards.

Especially of any cards that allows for “casting” creatures without paying their mana costs. I am okay with sacrificing a creature to do this.

Thanks!

The first issue is who your commander is move Averna, the Chaos Bloom to the commander remove animar from the deck he is not really doing anything for you if you are trying to be a cascade deck. He is better with creatures that can grow +1/+1 counters or creatures with x int the cost and he is the original morph commanderand he works great there still.

Start there make sure your deck is focused on what it's plan is I think it is cascade but you have weird stuff that does not directly benefit your plan of ramp and cascade. Example Prime speaker vannifar she puts the creature on the battle field no cascade triggers no ramp whats her purpose. The real question is why are you ramping for free spells or are you ramping to cast big cascade spells ?

Your deck needs a plan or a wincon and then you can build a sub theme or secondary plan but the sub heme needs to fit into he primary theme for efficient use of cards.

First order of business what type of deck do you want this to be ?

Agreed with hejtmane that Averna, the Chaos Bloom would be a better cascade commander
But the change would not be that easy, right now animor is the only hope of of getting this deck started
With out his reductions you would have to completely retune your cmc and add alot more rocks.

Animar is early game set up, he is an engine. A tool to set my board up aggressively, before I start cascading. The ramping helps me get my cascade creatures out faster and more steadily. With Animar out and the excessive ramping by turn 6ish cascade creatures should start appearing on the battlefield. Heck, haste + Apex Devastator on turn 6 is a win.

I like to tutor out Averna before I cascade so I get that land, but with the ramping it works if I don’t get to tutor her out. With only so many tutor cards and the likelihood of getting two at best, its an ideal but not always possible.

Casting for free vs Animar. Well yea, there is no clear theme there, it’s like a collision. I see it as an opportunity to make an opponent second guess my strategy. If they destroy Animar, Ive been ramping so I can still cast my bigger creatures and cascade. They stop my ramping I can cast for free... The bases are somewhat covered. When getting 3-5 creatures out in one turn, the game shifts quickly and I can follow through with a heavy blow for a win.

You are right, Vannifar doesn’t fit and neither do a few other search cards. It is a messy mess of searching is all. Thank you for pointing it out to me, it is obvious now that I see it clearly. Haha. Will make some edits there.

Your feedback is helpful and I appreciate the response. I thought about your question all night...

I’d say the type of deck I’d like this to be is an aggro-midrange force to be reckoned with! Ha.

My early game goal is to ramp enough that I have an overwhelming board presence, followed by a satisfying cascade that hopefully leads to a satisfying blow to an opponent.

Perhaps this is all just an ideal, but I have faired pretty well even when I struggle early game. Stalling enough that by turn 10ish I can turn the game back around in my favor.

Anyhow. Made a few edits thus far... have been play testing the weekend away.

Kindly,

Cheifetteus
