Not vile or cruel enough

Commander Deck Help forum

Posted on June 7, 2020, 8:51 p.m. by Stardragon

I'm making a mono-black competitive voltron commander with K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth as my commander there are a few problems heres a link K'rrik's Cruel Ambition

  1. I'm not sure if I built it voltron or not

  2. Ik that the competitive meter on this site is not 100% accurate by it's a good starting point and it says that this deck is like only 70% competitive and that's not enough for me

  3. This a is a personal issue but all the same I don't feel like this deck is not mean or cruel enough yet i want this to a major groan deck (you know people groan when they see you pull this deck out), my play group only follows the official ban list, so other than those no card is off the table. The meaner, crueler or salt makier (ik this is not a word) the better

  4. While not the biggest problem if they are any card that you guys find that have a high $$ ($20 or more) tag but doesn't actually do much for this deck let me know pls

What level do you want it? It looks 75% maximum to me in terms of competitiveness.

A competitive K'rrik often is a storm list, running out fast games and complex interaction and lines, so Dark Ritual, Cabal Ritual etc. The most common wincon is Doomsday lines, and the list is really tuned.

A semi-competitive version can be a stax or weaker storm list, but the midrange combat-oriented list you have can't get much higher than 80% max I think.

Also, I can get you a list of switches and most overpriced cards when I know what you are looking for.

Pushing it to 80% wouldn't be a backbreaking issue, for example more ramp and card draw and a lower curve can work easily to improve the win chances. If you want a different, more cruel version of K'rrik I can get you a list too!

To Doomsday flat no ik it powerful card which is what i would want for this deck but I just don't such a huge gamble that can be shut down with a Counterspell or a Nevinyrral's Disk.

And yes a crueler, meaner version is what im looking for and if can't get past 80% with this mid-range combat deck im willing to change it if necessary as for the im looking for somewhere between 85%-100% (Though 80% isn't terrible)

And yes a list for switches for overpriced card (as long as there are not doing anything for this deck or doing too little) are a welcome addition

I'll make a few lists, a control list aimed at being purely cruel, a list aimed at maximizing speed and consistency at winrates, and another that is more thematic!

Above is the storm variant on a budget, you can use K'rrik cEDH or another list for a non-budget version, but playtesting the budget one will work fine for getting a good grasp of the gameplan.

This list I built I decided was better for Rankle, Master of Pranks than K'rrik, but is the most cruel version I could imagine.

I find the competitive meter useless ignore it can warp your deck into making bad decision. The reason I am saying this is at the end of the day Voltron is not a competitive deck build style if you are pushing for cedh type of deck. They are generally combo decks even if it is around combat to win
