Need Two Stax Swap Cards For My Staxless Godo Deck.

Hi!

I have a staxless cEDH Godo deck, and I'm working on a swap card list for the rare occasion I want to take it to highest level -

Godo for Shodo

Which two of this deck's cards could I swap out to complete this list -

RambIe says... #2

It doesn't work that way

Cedh Godo primary function is to assemble 11 mana, secondary function is instant speed response / removal. That's it no other functions.

Swapping 5 cards for stax peaces won't work. 1st no card vantage to draw them, 2nd not enough tutors to grab them, 3rd alot of the cedh ramp base is 1 time use focused on casting the commander. What that all means is most games the stax peaces will not see play, and they have a chance to be dead cards in hand if you do get one.

If you want a godo stax your going to need to add more functions to the deck which will require alot more then 5 cards to be swapped out.

Partial disagreement in the context of this not being a glass cannon Godo build.

The stax pieces are mostly for after you fail to cast Godo and are ramping up to the next cast and need to slow everyone else down / keep them from interrupting your combo again. For example, you won't play Possibility Storm or Blood Moon before casting Godo the first time, but you will revel in casting them after he is slapped and you're working on ramping up to the next cast attempt.

And the addition of these cards is not to make this a stax deck per se, but to add some stax as additional utility when you happen to draw into one of them, again, typically after your Godo is slapped down the first time.

My bad i misunderstood because the deck you have linked is a glass cannon that blows out its hand casting godo, that deck would need card draw to function the way you want

No, it doesn't have trouble with card count at all. In fact, that's exactly why it doesn't run LED or Diamond Lion - to keep from actually blowing out its hand.

I've been playing this deck for years and none of your off the cuff observations are applicable. All you've done is derail the thread, so I think it's time you move on to shitting up something else.

my "off the cuff observations" are based on taking the time to actually play test the deck you linked, taking the time to analyze the card list, and even taking the time to respond to your thread. which is much more then anyone else has done for you.
it plays like every other godo deck that's main function is to ramp into 11 mana and secondary function response / removal, the only thing different about this deck is that you chose to add flavor for choices to fetch instead of just sticking with helm as the target. none the less i was easily able to end the game with the helm combo between turns 3 and 4 every game while blowing out my hand and utilizing 1 time use mana rocks.

if you have the habit of keeping a shit hand instead of utilizing mulligan options that causes you to play less competitively and not being able to blow out your hand well that's just your play style and has nothing to do with the fact that "tempo needs card advantage"

and with that said in response to your crappy comment i am done investing the time to help you.

If you have played out your hand, then you are winning the game. Drawing more is just win more, so that's mostly pointless.

I'm bet you're dumb enough to play Wheel of Fortune in Godo, tho -

Congratulations, you have a fresh hand... after also refilling your opponent's hands with counter-spells.

Brilliant.

Next time don't be a shit-fly who derails people's threads and you won't be flicked away.

"If you have played out your hand, then you are winning the game."
do you even understand what a glass cannon is ? or are you just prone to instantly becoming offended because you don't understand and have to result to insults.
1st of all if you were not playing a glass cannon deck you would have access to cards like Red Elemental Blast, Pyroblast, Deflecting Swat, Bolt Bend, Ricochet Trap, Burnout, Fork, Reverberate, Reiterate, Fury Storm so you wouldn't be such a pussy about opponents having counter spells
2nd of all a real red player would already have Jeska's Will, Birgi, God of Storytelling  Flip, & Faithless Looting before considering Wheel of Fortune

i do have to admit though your comment about me being a shit-fly does seem fitting because what else do you expect your shit deck to attract

so keep on swatting and in the mean time here is an average deck list for godo, it already has everything your wanting included along with the responses and card draw required to make it all work

I seemed to have stumbled on a bit of an argument. I'm sorry it took that kind of turn! RambIe actually made some decent points and recommendations, though admittedly they probably could have been delivered better on both your end and theirs. I think part of the confusion is the whole "highest level" part. There are a couple of really good cEDH Godo primers out there. Waiting for Godo - cEDH primer seems to be generally considered a really good starting point. You both nailed the point that the two strats are either going all in "glass cannon" count to 11, or a more resilient sort of one with stax pieces. While I like the idea of swapping around pieces to shift from one strategy to another, I do think your deck may struggle to play at the most optimal without further changes to accommodate for either strat. Also Godo kind of fits into a niche in cEDH and feels very meta dependent. I've played Godo off and on and at different competitive levels for a while, in my experience, Godo actually holds up fairly well in a meta full of stax pieces. There's really only a few pieces out that you have to watch out for, and your deck already runs a lot of the necessary removal to answer those threats. Even in combo heavy meta, Godo still has a place for being a consistent turn 3 win or earlier. If you play in a meta with a lot of counterspells, part of it is knowing if/when to go for the Godo Helm combo, which is something that comes down to your own decisions and only gets better with playing the deck in games. Also, I wouldn't discount Wheel kind of effects. Yes, it can refill your opponents hand with potential answers, but as mentioned before, there are a plethora of answers that you can include in the list to accommodate for this. I typically view it as a really bad version of Ad Nauseam, giving you that last bit of gas to close out the game or get critical mass of interaction. I also would say that wheels wouldn't be super great in the way the deck currently stands, not a whole lot of ritual one off effects.(though it could maybe work with your take extra turn spells? I'd have to playtest more lol).

Specific recommendations for your swaps... Palladium Myr and/or Brass Squire. Love both these cards, only reason is they're probably the most weak activated abilities in your current build, if your gameplan is to run the stacx pieces.

Also maybe Release the Gremlins, you got a lot of artifact removal in there to slow down opponents mana

For general stuff to consider...

Cursed Mirror does two fold in a Godo deck, Ramp and decrease overall cost of the magical 11mana count for the helm combo. Urza's Saga is a decent land that can fetch any relevant artifacts. Karn, the Great Creator gives you access to exiled helms should it be targeted with removal, and is an overall decent enough stax piece, though at 4 mana it's maybe a bit too steep as to what you're looking for. Also, Chalice of the Void can be a pretty versatile stax piece/protection. at 2 it stops a lot of formats counters, but probably best at one, where it stops swords to plowshares, natures claim etc.

Hope those help! All in all, I think a modular Godo deck is an interesting idea! I would ask you to look at the recommendations given before in a vacuum without taking it too personal. In your own playtesting, try to address the main concerns/weaknesses mentioned above (without even having to argue or mention stuff in the comments section. The aim is to get better and to learn, even if you disagree with some random person on the internet lol. Take recommendations with a grain of salt and just be receptive to criticism). Opinions and suggestions don't hinder what you are actually allowed to play, they're just ideas to get you thinking about when trying to make your deck better. Play the game how you want. Good luck playtesting!
