Mono-green

Commander Deck Help forum

I've decided to pick a mono-green deck. Like I wrote previously I've never built a mono-colored deck and I have a few questions.

  1. I was gonna go with Omnath, Locus of Mana, but after going through the list of mono-green generals 2 more legends caught my attention.

First one is obviously Omnath, Locus of Mana (Mana/land focused deck).

My second idea was Oviya Pashiri, Sage Lifecrafter (token oriented deck).

My third and last one is Rhonas the Indomitable (creature focused deck).

I was also wondering other than the obvious 20+ forest in the deck is there any other land I should think about including in the deck ?

Without knowing your budget and builds, it's hard to say. Obviously Gaea's Cradle fits nicely in about any mono green deck, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's worth the price tag. Wirewood Lodge is good if you're running elves and it can make an infinite mana combo with Argothian Elder and any way of producing multiple mana from a single land. Mosswort Bridge can be pretty solid in most green decks and it's pretty cheap, so you'll probably want that I guess?

alias42 there's no specific budget. Just acquired Drop of Honey and Gaea's Cradle if that can give you an idea of the kind of budget I have access to.

Also which generals you thought would be a better option in the 3 commander I listed?

So all in on budget. Gotcha. Personally, my mono green commander is Ezuri, Renegade Leader, but of the 3 you mentioned I think Omnom is probably the best

well Yisan, the Wanderer Bard by far would be the most powerful commander option for mono green. the toolbox tutor engine that he is makes for very powerful threat/answer machine.

edhrec is also a fairly good tool in figuring out how most people work with their commander choices.

Have you thought about building Yisan, the Wanderer Bard? He gives you a lot more options in the way of commander as you can just fetch the aforementioned options.

My issue with both Rhonas and Omnath is that they don't provide you with any ramp or card advantage.

Demarge thanks for the tips but my focuse is really on the 3 general I listed and edhrec cat help me with that choice since I'm not familiar with any of these generals or with mono-colored in the first place.

I understand your point enpc but my problem with Yisan, the Wanderer Bard is that where I play people always tend to target the player with the general that either is super popular a.k.a. stuff lime animar braya atraxa or stuff that gives a lot of card advantage.

I saw my playgroup tearing a meren deck by turn 4-5 just because its A. A very popular general and B. It gives a lot of card advantage mid to late game.

I rather like Rhonas the Indomitable. He turns fight spells into actual kill spells and could set up a removal engine all while being more difficult than normal to remove. And with enough mana every creature in the deck could one shot an opponent.

Two cards worth thinking about when the commander has death touch are Viridian Longbow and Thornbite Staff. Separately these are good includes but together they make a machine gun. I use them to pretty good effect with Queen Marchesa.

No one suggesting Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma? She's not a combo machine, but look at that fur. Who wouldn't want to be hit by her and all her fluffy friends?
