Mirari in EDH

Commander Deck Help forum

Nearly all of my EDH decks contain a copy of Mirari , because of how useful that card is, but I have noticed that I do not draw it every game, and, even when I do draw it, I may not always have an instant or sorcery in my hand or sufficient mana to copy it, and thus, am not able to make full use of it, so I am wondering if I should keep it in my EDH decks.

Therefore, I am wondering: what is the recommended minimum number of instants and/or sorceries to have in an EDH deck for Mirari to be worth having in that deck?

I would say somewhere around 20+.

Also, it 100% does not belong in every deck

GhostChieftain, that is good to know, because I have been contemplating if I should remove it from some of my decks, so I shall now remove it from any deck that has less than 20 instants and/or sorceries.

I would amend what GhostChieftain said to 20+ instants or sorceries you would want to copy. Counterspells, wrath effects, and spells with a high CMC that make it difficult to pay the additional should not count toward the critical mass of spells needed to justify Mirari's inclusion.

I think Braids put it best - Mirari might often give you what you want, but that does not mean it is always giving you what you need.

Caerwyn, to be honest, none of my EDH decks, other than my red/blue/green deck that has Riku of Two Reflections as its general, place a major emphasis on instants and sorceries, so I could theoretically remove Mirari from all of them.

In addition, I have been looking for an excuse to put Arcane Encyclopedia in my EDH decks, so I could use that card to replace Mirari , which would also have the benefit of lowering each deck's man curve.

I would only run Arcane Encylopedia in Mono-R, Mono-W, or RW. G/B/U all have more efficient draws.

lonesentinel, that is true, but are those methods able to be used repeatedly and whenever their controller could cast an instant?

griffstick, I cannot believe that I forgot about that card; thank you very much. I shall need to put it in decks that have plenty of methods for regaining the life that I spend on it, but I am certain that it would be worth including.
