Is Grim Backwoods a Good Land For EDH?

Commander Deck Help forum

I am considering putting Grim Backwoods in one of my EDH decks, because repeatable card drawing at instant speed is always nice, and the deck in question has plenty of methods to generate tokens to sacrifice to the land, but four mana and a sacrifice are a high cost to pay for a single card, so I shall ask for the advice of everyone else here, before I include that land in my deck.

What does everyone else here say about this? Is grim backwoods a good card for an EDH deck?

I would say it is decent if you ever need that extra card draw or if your creature has an effect that goes off when it dies.

It can also comes in handy when a board wipe is going off just to net you a little bit of card draw before it happens on the stack.

It is a decent utility land for a Golgari deck that wants creatures in the graveyard since you should normally be able to get them back.

Joe_Ken_, the deck in which I am putting the land has Atraxa, Praetors' Voice as the general, and has an overall theme of using the proliferate mechanic; is that the type of deck that could benefit from such a land?

It normally depends on your meta. If you are playing against cedh decks, steer clear for sure. If you have long grindy games and people arent playing any quick combos it seems fine in most cases.

As far as Atraxa having it, I think I would pass since it is a 4 color deck and you have better ways to draw cards than a colorless land.

I'd say keep it out of atraxa. With it being 4 colors you need as many colored lands as possible

If you really want a land that draws you cards I would go with Mikokoro, Center of the Sea or Geier Reach Sanitarium sure they let your opponents draw cards, but sometimes that can help if your all trying to team up on someone.

How many colors is your deck? If it jus 2 then it's a land that you'll barely ever use. Its technically 5 mana cause you have to tap the land to do it. It's really bad. But if your deck needs sac outlet's and a really bad one on a land then it gets slightly better. Still a bad card.

Not worth it in Atraxa, IMO. It's a good land for golgari and sultai decks. Only deck I run it is Muldrotha.

The majority of users here have recommended against using Grim Backwoods , so I shall not use it in my Atraxa deck, but, since I have already purchased a copy of it, I shall look for another deck into which I could put that card.

It is not worth running as a source of card draw.

It is worth running as a backup sacrifice outlet, in case you have no other ones available.

That usually means that it only sees play in Golgari decks, with occasional appearances in Jund lists that intend to run a sacrifice theme. Outside of a deck that cares heavily about the ability to sacrifice its creatures, it's not worth running.

In a four color deck like Atraxa, it's horrible.

PhotogenicParasympathetic, sacrificing is not a major theme of my Atraxa deck, so that is further evidence that that land is not suitable for that deck.
