I want to build a fun control deck with a little bit of chaos

Commander Deck Help forum

I would like to build a budget control deck that will be fun to play. I'm thinking izzet and a little bit of chaos would be fun. I want it to be quite powerful so that it's fun to play in my "quite" slow playgroup.

i need your help with: - ideas - the commander - specific cards - win cons - creative thinking

Nothing is set in stone, do you think I need another color, please tell me why.

I like synergies, I like to get value from cards more than once and I like when I can interact with the game. I like using opponents boardstate against them. I also like to do something unexpected once in a while.

Winning is not all, play a fun game is!

What kind of budget are we talking?

Your second to last paragraph screams Muldrotha, the Gravetide to me (probably biased because that's what I'm building). You're constantly re-using your permanents and removal, and you can run things like Hostage Taker and Kheru Spellsnatcher to steal opponent's things, and then reuse them!

Some other commanders that come to mind are Admiral Beckett Brass and Yasova Dragonclaw which allow you to continually steal opponent's creatures. Plus the are in the colors you were thinking.

Do any of those sound appealing?

ducttapedeckbox I loveMuldrotha, the Gravetide! So much that I actually already have a deck with her. Feel free to come with feedback or steal some ideas!

I would like this deck to be more controlling without being a stax deck. I would like this deck to be focused on instants and sorceries more than creatures. So pirates doesn't feel right. Yasova Dragonclaw seems fun but since we already have one in out playgroup I won't built her.

Kheru Spellsnatcher sounds like card for me. Interesting and I have actually been thinking that it would be fun with a lot of morphs.

A deck for Kess, Dissident Mage might have what you want - black and black/blue has all the 'use your opponents stuff against them', red for the chaos and she herself is wonderful for getting more value out of your spells

Keranos, God of Storms is a good resilient commander that people usually won't/can't remove. He'll net you plenty of value while you do your shenanigans!

For chaos cards, Izzet gives you loads of options. In red you have Wild Evocation, Tide of War, Possibility Storm, Mana Cache... For Blue you have mainly Hive Mind, you can check out this list sorted by colour.

Not sure of any other commanders not suggested so far, but it seems like you would really like to make use of cards such as Insurrection. I will give more ideas when I have the time.

I lost some of my comment because I left the edit too long, well basically what I said beyond that was have you considered possibly Narset, Enlightened Master? While you could go the obvious route of extra turn spells and the like, a much more tame route would be using her to simply cast other big spells such as Enter the Infinite, Epic Experiment, Omniscience, perhaps doing something with Laboratory Maniac.

Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind has synergies with a lot of cards also so they might be worth consideration also.

_Delta_ I actually started a Niv-Mizzet build. But I’m not sure how fun it will be for opponents or me.

So now I’m thinking of Melek, Izzet Paragon. He seems to be able to do what I want and it seems interesting to let your opponents see what your cards.

WhichKing, Keranos, God of Storms seems good, might be one of the 99. I think I'm going for Melek, Izzet Paragon. Thanks for the link to the list. There's too many fun cards in it! Hard to chose my favourites.
