How should you balance your removal and theft in a decklist?

I am currently working on a Marchesa, the Black Rose build right now. It's going to have a theft sub-theme, but I'm not wanting to go overboard with it. I was wondering what the best spread of theft and removal would be, as the two conflict with each other. Example; 10 removal, 5 theft.

Thanks in advance!

It depends on what your theft payoffs (if any) are, and whether your theft effects are temporary or permanent. For example, Agent of Treachery IS a removal spell because it takes away a creature from your opponents. But if you’re using it as a payoff for your theft effects, you should probably have around 10 theft spells, since it wants you to steal 3 things (I’d suggest including even more theft spells normally, but your commander can let you retrigger the agent).

More simply, if you consider permanent (as in no return trigger, such as end of turn) theft effects as removal spells, your suggestion is a great guideline in my opinion.

They don't have to conflict with each other. Theft + a value sac outlet like Viscera Seer or Carrion Feeder feels so dirty but good at the same time. Steal then throw away when you're done with it or if they try and get it back with Homeward Path
