How can I improve my first deck?

Commander Deck Help forum

Hi everyone, I would like to ask you for help to improve my deck Queen Marchesa: better not to attack her. As explained in the deck description, my table is certainly not competitive, but the decks that are played are still pretty strong (in other words there are no infinite combos), which however tend to generate fairly long games. My deck is designed to survive for as long as possible, generating the conditions to end the game safely. I love always having answers to threats in hand, but I was wondering how I could make it more effective. Do you think I should increase mana rocks? Or modify the mana-base? Or just change the deck setting? I thank anyone who takes a moment to help a beginner !!

I would add more pillow-fort stile enchantments like Ghostly Prison, Norn's Annex, Lightmine Field, Karmic Justice, Sphere of Safety and Crawlspace. In the creatures compartment i would suggest adding Master of Cruelties. For a less competitive build (but actually fun to play) i play in my deck the "curses" like Curse of Opulence. Anointed Procession is a must in this deck since it allows you to get two assasins instead of one when you are not the monarch. It really depends on what you are aiming for but in my opinion the deck doesn't have enough pillow-fort cards to play the political game.

Hi ShutUpMokuba, first of all thank you for your feedback. Initially I played more cards like the ones you said; the problem was that as the game went on they became less and less effective. For this reason I opted for cards like No Mercy which instead of taxing, kills. The games at my table tend to last a long time, easily over an hour. When opponents have 15 mana available, they pay and attack.

couple of recommendation here: Your playing white, Smothering Tithe will win you games outright due to mana advantage. Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite absolutely destroys board states and lets you push through. Archetype of Courage if going to make your deathtouchers insanely efficient on the board

Thanks so much Dark_Paladin; Smothering Tithe I absolutely must add it, as for Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite who should I take off to make room?

I would swap out Debt to the Deathless for Elesh Norn... while i like the card, i feel like it doesn't do enough to bring your opponents down, while the mass influx of life just paints a target on your back. Also, after going over your list again, you could afford to pull out Fellwar Stone in favor of Arcane Signet.

Your mana base seem a little wonky to me. Personally I'd cut all three Temples, Tainted Field, and Lavaclaw. In their place I'd run Sacred Foundry Godless Shrine and 3 more basic Plains as your deck break down shows you're pretty low on white mana generation compared to what you deck wants based on casting costs.
