Help With Tazri

Commander Deck Help forum

I currently have a three color Tymna/Sakashima deck that draws a lot of cards and has a lot of interaction, but my playgroup doesn't like it. I am looking toward a budget General Tazri but I'm worried it won't be powerful enough to compete with one friend's Estrid deck. How can I make Tazri as powerful as possible and do you have any other suggestions for commanders?

ugg, i feel your pain this has always been a hard area for me
i can play for real or i can just be silly and janky
but its hard to play at a lesser level to make others happy
although i can and have tuned to match play levels theirs always a little voice in me that says i shouldn't have to and they should just adjust to mine and whats worse is getting waffle stomped or locked out of the game by someone who caused you to detune

what is it about your Tymna/Sakashima deck that's causing hate?
stax, long turns, slow play or is it they just cant beat it ?

Ramble, they just can’t beat it throu all the interaction and it takes a while to win.

Just to pitch a monkey wrench into things: I want to start by saying that no one LIKES to lose, but it’s possible to completely counterbalance losing with the enjoyment of drawing whatever the next card is in your weird deck, and whatever strange interactions come out of it. That’s been my big win since coming back to M:tG. This can be super difficult if your playgroup is strong/hardcore and you’re all really gunning for that turn four victory, but this is a phenomenal goal if you can achieve it. And, in the name of said balance, you should still be able to pull out those big guns once in a while too ;p Just another direction to look at this from, YMMV.

So, Tazari was the defacto Food Chain commander before niv, niv was short lived too; The First Sliver took its' place and now ukimma and it are fighting for a titan slot. Anyways, I'd use this list or water it down to taste and budget; you cannot ever go wrong with a shaper build.

The problem the food chain Tazri list is that the entire deck is devoted to the food chain line. The deck also heavily relies on the forbiddent tutors (e.g. Tainted Pact ) which got expensive as hell thanks to Thassa's Oracle .

One good budget alternative is to use Deadeye Navigator + Great Whale or Peregrine Drake with Tazri and Kalastria Healer as the same infinite line that the FCT decks do. The benefit of this line however is that you can still go ally heavy in the build and deadeye has good synery with the list. You can also use Eldrazi Displacer or Eternal Witness + Ghostly Flicker (which are both good cards in ally decks anyway) as redundancy on deadeye.

I_Want_To_PlayAllTheDecks: I had been considering putting together a Tazri deck for a while prior to this thread (I have played her in the past but have since pulled the deck apart). I have been looking into a better balanced list here: Tazri which is far from done, but might give you some ideas. I am running Palinchron which allows for some additional combo lines above Great Whale (since it combos with Bramble Sovereign ) however if Palinchron is outside your budget then that's understandable.
