Help deciding a commander for my budget semi-competitive edh deck

Commander Deck Help forum

I can’t decide between niv-mizzet Parun and nekusar, They both are wheel decks, niv-mizzet gives me tons of draw and wheels allow me to pick off players slowly and people dont hate her nearly as much as nekusar. However, nekusar costs less and is not all colored to cast. What do you think, is playing nekusar over niv-mizzet worth the extra hate and targeting at the beginning of the game??

I mean you have Grixis in your name... Why would you not play the Grixis commander?!?!?! lol.

To be more serious either one will get you targeted to hell and back. Nekusar is better known I think but people around you will learn to fear Niv if you play him. I think Nekusar has an easier time winning without needing to be in play. Though it is worth considering that Niv doesn't help your enemies...

Honestly i don't think you get much of a pass using either one. Niv will get targeted asap a lot of the time too. Play the one that seems most fun for you. I like 3 color decks better than 2, so that's why i would choose Nekusar.

I would go with Niv Mizzet bc literally 9/10ths of the edh population plays nekusar

Deadpoo111: don't see much nekusar around my store. Seen many play new niv. Just putting him in command of the original red blue pre construct makes him powerful. The one sided draw power cannot be underestimated. But you need more color producing mana rocks so you hit the 6 color requirement. I would add him to my 4 color wizards, if he wasn't so color intense.

If you are willing to run the Curiosity combos I would run niv. if not probably nekusaur

I mean I kinda think both the decks are going for a similar theme with the draw=burn. Except with Nekusar, the Mindrazer I guess you have to worry about your opponents drawing into their good stuff faster, but you get access to all those really good black tutor spells while with Niv-Mizzet, Parun you have a lot of answers with an Izzet deck.

Clout of the Dominus / Robe of Mirrors are cheap supplemental tools to aid in keeping your General in play and will help both options.... I would play nekusar for having access to for additional budget tutors and removal.
