Gargos, Vicious Watcher hydra tribal is here! So cool

Commander Deck Help forum

So me and my friend put our minds together and built our first hydra tribal edh and its sweet. But we both think that Doubling Season and Unbound Flourishing are both strong inclusions, but don't win the game (maybe). So unfortunately we could not find room to add them over some of the other good cards.

I'm looking for outside help. Convince me it belongs in the deck and why. Also tell me what cards to cut, and why that card. Make any suggestions on improving the deck as well. Also upvotes are much appreciated. Let's make this #1

I would say both Doubling Season and Unbound Flourishing are better than Rancor or Season of Growth in this deck. Sure, Rancor grants trample, but with your commanders cost reduction your hydras will get at least +4/+4 for free.

Season of Growth can draw 4 cards with one spell like Blessings of Nature I think that card is great

Unless I am wrong about how that card works

griffstick I might be wrong, but Season of Growth triggers on cast, and you are only casting Blessings of Nature once even tho it targets 4 times.

smackjack I was thinking the same thing. It has to be casted and targeted to trigger. So it wouldn't work with aura either right?

I would take out Whip Silk and Rancor since some of the Hydras have Reach and Trample, Doubling Season and Unbound Flourishing are far better inclutions in my opinion since you can cast a Hydra with your commanders effect with at least 4 +1/+1 counters for free, and then pump it up to 8, IMO that is a far better advantage, and there are other cards that allow trample on your creatures, you could always slap a Craterhoof Behemoth as a win condition.

Whip Silk is the best card in the deck as a repeatable removal spell. And Craterhoof Behemoth I can't imagine have more than 3 or 4 hydras out in play before I've either won the game or a board swipe happens. So even if I had 4 hydras in play when I cast Craterhoof Behemoth it's only +5 power to the hydras. That's not that good for 8 mana. Where as the other cards like Overwhelming Stampede for 5 mana makes my creatures anywhere from +8 to maybe even +20 power bigger. And Triumph of the Hordes is +1 but infect makes it so I only need 10 points of trample damage and that's 4 mana.

Craterhoof Behemoth is better in a token deck

But that's 2 for Rancor but I dont see why rancor is bad anyway. It also reusable removal and it grants trample.

It's not that Rancor is bad, but you said it yourself, Overwhelming Stampede and Triumph of the Hordes do a better job at trampling your creatures into the win, and I think the two enchantments are a way to achieve that damage, as for Whip Silk, same case as Rancor, I don't think someone would waste removal on those because of the reusable ability on them.

3 creatures in the deck have trample

This deck's basically asking for a board sweeper to mop up your big dudes. I'd recommend Spearbreaker Behemoth as a way to keep your creatures alive through everything but exile effects.

walruscustard you are right, every deck has its weaknesses. There is 3 spells for sweepers in the deck. Seasons Past , Praetor's Counsel , Heroic Intervention , there's also a few other spells that can recover those spells in the deck too but I'll consider Spearbreaker Behemoth too
