Freed from the Real in Arcades

Commander Deck Help forum

Posted on Sept. 13, 2018, 1:23 a.m. by usaDiabetic

Trying to decide if I should put Freed from the Real in my Arcades deck. The temptation of Axebane Guardian+Freed from the Real might be too hard for me to resist.

Trying to think of a good enough payload for it has me stumped though.

Anyone have any good ideas?

Here's my deck list for reference: Super Potato

Infinite mana plus Blue Sun's Zenith is a fairly common win condition. Draw your deck with it first, then use a cantrips to redraw it and draw out each opponent one by one.

Green Sun's Zenith, Genisis Wave, White Sun's Zenith, and other cool fun stuff. Like you could pump your whole team to infinity with Leonin Sun Standard, steal everything with Memnarch, make a big Hangarback Walker, make an infinitly huge Snow Fortress, make a huge Walking Ballista and kill everyone.

Once you have infinite mana of any color and you can flip yur deck over, it's very hard to lose as if your deck cant win with all the mana and all the cards in it, then your deck can't win. The problem with infinite mana is that when you are not playing an infinite mana outlet in the command zone like thrasios or breya, you have to play a lot of "draw x" cards, which can be very inneficient because more draw x cards = less walls = cards that say "Tap: add X where x is your walls" get worse. I would only play the combo if you intend on playing a lot of tutors, because it makes arcades worse.

THAT SAID, the card is LITERALLY A QUARTER!!! JUST TRY IT OUT AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT TAKE IT OUT. Forget not trying it at all, you can spare a quarter to at least try it out.

Thanks for all the responses, also I'm a dope for forgetting all the Zenith spells.

I'm probably not going to throw in tutors or anything like that to make Arcades into a full out combo deck.(my playgroup would hate me), but I just might want to sneak one in that I could accidentally draw into.

If I do go this route though Memnarch seems like the perfect fit!

Thanks everyone!!

I like that idea, except I would play Mind Spring instead because it is card draw and you always want card draw weather you have infinite mana or not and memnark is way too durdly without making 100s of mana and doesn't support the walls theme, while Mind Spring will draw walls and help after a board wipe.

Also since you should be playing eternal witness I don't think the shuffle into deck on Blue Sun's Zenith is worth drawing 1 less card most of the time, and as I said, you should be able to win with infinite mana and your deck in your hand no matter what, throw in a haste effect like createrhoof or concorted crossroads if you wand to garauntee winning, (unless someone responds by playing Terminus on your turn. If you suspect something like this or if someone may have a fog (or just always because why not), draw all but 1 card of your deck, then first thing you do is play Eternal Witness to get back your mind spring in case you have to rebuild from something like a combat trick into Hallowed Burial, or if people play Vedalken Orrery. While this is unlikely, I have hosed people by doing this before and there is no reason not to be safe. Another option is Temur Sabertooth which does silly things when you have absurd amounts of mana by duplicating etb effects like createrhoof.

SMASHER101 Not sure if you looked at the list, but the deck does a good job of drawing all of the cards. Also I do run the Sabertooth in it.

The entire reason from this post is, I ran into Freed from the Real combo last night playing pauper on MTGO and thought to myself..."Maybe Arcades would like this".

here's the list again if you want to take a gander Super Potato

Can I just say that Memnarch is bad. If your play group doesn't like combo then they won't like Memnarch. The risk/reward profile is way too high for it as a card. It draws far too much hate for the value it generates. Plus outside of combo it is clunky and terrible.

The other issue is that Memnarch is not an "I win" button like USZ is. Just like Villainous Wealth, you haven't actually won the game yet. You still need to do something with him. Yes. I know that you control all the permanents on the battlefield however if you're going to combo, you may as well just play something that outright wins.

On the topic of Blue Sun's Zenith vs Mind Spring, inside of combo USZ is much better. Once you have drawn your deck it will be the only card left in it and your hand will be full of defender creatures. Simply cast one of them, draw USZ and then play it. Then rinse and repeat for all the rest of the opponents at the table. With Mind Spring, you need to set up some sort of graveyard recursion loop which you may not be able to do if Eternal Witness is in the yard.

You should play more than 1 eternal witness effect, that snake that DJ talks about a lot is a good option

SMASHER101: Two things, 1) Arcedes' trigger is not a may, so you will deck yourself recurring Mind Spring and 2) that still hinges on Temur Sabertooth in that case.

Bacon of tomorrows is about $40 cheaper.

Helix Pinnacle would work good with infinite mana. This stupid win con has shroud too lol

griffstick yup that's dirty.....I like it

September 15, 2018 3:25 p.m.

SMASHER101 says... #22

Helix pinnacle is worse because of wraths like austere command and merciless eviction, which get around hexproof. To me the only Ustinov here is wether you want to win with blue sun or bacon of tomorrows.

Hint: the correct answer is beacon of tomarrows because you can WIN WITN BACON!!!!

SMASHER101 says... #23

Also since you said you draw a ton you can realistically chain a few bacon turns which can win the game anyway
