Dinosaur Combos

Hey I've been working on this dinosaur commander deck for a while now and I've been trying to add combos to it but am having trouble coming up with things. I know about the infinite Polyraptors combo but does anyone know any other cool combos that could go off in dinosaur tribal?

TypicalTimmy,

I see your point this is definitely not infinite, thank you for the clarification.

However if you use Marauding Raptor instead of Forerunner of the Empire with Polyraptor it is infinite which can just draw the game if you have no damage outputs as per the above mentioned by TypicalTimmy, instant speed removal or a sacrifice outlet.

Lordeh, could you explain why this ends the game in a draw as opposed to me winning??

With Polyraptor and Marauding Raptor you enter an endless loop that causes a draw if no player can break the loop. Here's the rule:

  • 104.4b If a game that’s not using the limited range of influence option (including a two-player game) somehow enters a “loop” of mandatory actions, repeating a sequence of events with no way to stop, the game is a draw. Loops that contain an optional action don’t result in a draw.

Polyraptor enters the battlefield. You are required to deal damage to it with Marauding (it is not a "may" ability--it will always trigger). That causes a new Polyraptor to enter the battlefield; which triggers Marauding.

This will repeat forever, unless someone loses the game (say if Impact Tremors is on the field, so you'll eventually kill your opponent through the infinite loop) or unless someone removes/you sacrifice the Polyraptor token while Marauding's damage ability is on the stack (or unless you Stifle Marauding's ability or if you give Polyraptor protection).

Compare to Forerunner of the Legion - let's say you give Forerunner indestructible, its ability says you "may" deal damage to each creature. That allows you to break the loop on your own.

(Edit: Looks like I hit five paragraphs also. Whoops!)

Perfect way of describing the interaction. Could not have done better myself. :)

So if I were able to put out Impact Tremor followed by Marauding Raptor followed by Polyraptor all in the same turn, that combo would win the game that turn (assuming it doesn't get countered) because it also forces opponents to lose life?

Just in case there's any sticklers out there, you need to be somewhat careful in how you order the stack. Whenever a Polyraptor enters the battlefield, you need to order the stack so Marauding's trigger goes on the stack first; Tremors' trigger goes on the stack second.

That way Tremors will resolve first and damage each opponent before you have Marauding resolve and start the loop again (on top of the yet-unresolved Tremors trigger).

Yes. Each Polyraptor that enters would trigger Impact Tremors and do 1 damage to each opponent until they died. However if they remove Impact Tremors or for example Teferi's Protection in response to phase out, the game ends in a draw as you can not stop the infinite triggers.

Which is why whenever I see this combo make sure you have way to stop it on your own through instant speed removal Path to Exile Murder or a sacrifice outlet like Phyrexian Altar.

To add another combo:

Zacama, Primal Calamity + Temur Sabertooth with 12 lands. With Zacama and Sabertooth on the field, bounce Zacama for 2 mana with Sabertooth. You have 10 lands untapped. Tap all those lands for mana, cast Zacama. It resolves and untaps all your lands. Now you have 12 untapped lands and 1 floating mana.

You can keep doing that for infinite mana, which can be used with some sort of mana consuming damage outlet to win the game. Even if you do not have another item to use the mana to win, you can use that infinite mana to kill all your opponents' creatures, destroy all their artifacts and enchantments, and gain infinite life.

Also, if you have something like Tremors, that's infinite ETBs to kill people with tremors (only need 11 lands if that's what you're doing).

You cast Zacama for 9 mana. It resolves, you have 12 lands untapped. Use two mana from Sabertooth to return Zacma to your hand. 9 lands untapped.

Here is a link to my final deck. Could you look at it and let me know what you think?

Regarding the Polyraptor combo: It should go infinite with Rite of Passage I think.
