Decks too similar?

So I’m new to EDH and I’ve already built one deck ( Adeliz, the Cinder Wind ) and I’m working on a second ( The Locust God ).

I wanna build a third deck, I’m choosing between Kykar, Wind's Fury and Riku of Two Reflections .

What I’m wondering is if Kykar is too similar to my other 2 decks? They share quite a few cards. Should I just go with Riku to have something different to play?

Depends if you want to have differentiation in your decks. There is no right answer, only personal preference ;)

Well, I’ve mainly played Izzet decks in other formats and Young Pyromancer and Talrand, Sky Summoner are some of my favorite cards, Kykar is very similar to those cards so that’s why I wanted to build Kykar.

But I do kinda want to switch it up a bit so I’ll have something different to play.

If you haven't done spellslinger, go spellslinger. If you haven't run tokens, do that. Or chaos, or hard control/pillow fort... There's enough options in those colors to cover a pretty good variety.

Above all, do what you want to do and have fun doing.

My Adeliz is a spellslinger deck and The Locust God makes tokens.

Riku just looks fun though, copying creatures and stuff. I’ve never played a ramp deck before, like one with Rampant Growth type effects or mana dorks.

I was also considering Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow .

I would say build whatever you truly enjoy playing. I personally have two mono-black edh decks and a bunch of other decks with repeated black cards. If you build a deck you don’t really enjoy you’ll just end up pulling it apart or having sub-par games. That being said, I would recommend branching out to other color combos you haven’t tried sometimes too. You’ll likely find fun new play styles and colors that will broaden your horizons.

I really enjoy spellslinger type decks but I plan to spend a bit more for my third deck then the other two that I mostly had or traded for. I’m worried I might get bored if all my decks are too similar.

Build a deck that doesn't have colors red and blue in it.

You can build Kykar in so many ways, so if you go Kykar I'd consider going with a route you haven't touched on with your other two decks, like maybe enchantress or super friends. That being said stretching yourself into Riku might be more interesting since Riku builds should be very different then Locust God or Adeliz. The most important thing is that you enjoy it.

While all of these recommendations are worth taking into account, another option would be to think about new decks while you’re playing with your current ones. What would be fun to put up against your playgroup? What feels overplayed in your current set of decks and what would scratch a new itch? Might be worth considering...

If your heart is really set one building one of those 2, a kykar stuffy doll deck is a BLAST and will prob feel Very different from the 2 other decks you currently have!

If you’re used to playing control decks/combo decks from the sound of it why don’t you go the opposite direction entirely and play/build an agro deck?

Yeah I considered that as well, Jirina Kudro looked fun to me.

I would suggest Alesha, Who Smiles at Death you get to be an aggressive deck and also get to express some control elements through cards loke Fleshbag Marauder
