And yes; the name was meant to be a shoutout to a Doctor Who episode that's a Tour de Force as well; though the Azbantium part might be a spoiler... X/

Before we start, I'd like to give out a shout out to DespairFaction for supporting this (albeit) even harder cause to do than Boros Stax.

According to him (I think...?), this kind of deck needs stuff to slowdown opponents before they get the upper hand. Since Firesong & Sunspeaker is known for Red Nonpermanent Lifegain via Burn, I wanted this to be the primary clause. Actually, all this time, my Prime Directive is to Promote Boros from its current highest tier from 3 to 2.5 at worst. To add upon the Red card idea, I do not want White stuff promoting Lifegain as it doesn't promote enough Burn in return. I already have quite a lot of X-Burn, but no other consistent burn as well. That said, bottom line: I would love to see stuff in Boros Colors that can lockdown certain strategies in cEDH. If you can find any, even if it's an Artifact, don't be afraid to post it in the link above.

In fact, Just With Neheb, the Eternal, Aetherflux Reservoir, Pyrohemia, Personal Sanctuary & Mark of Asylum, 50 can overkill anyone, while you & your creatures stay intact.

Ideas?

After getting some requests, I'm instilling a new regulation:

  1. Nobody without Minor experience in cEDH at least is allowed.

  2. This is a Burn/Life deck. I don't want this to be mostly Stax based; I already have an 8yr. old Planeswalker for that.

That is all. Any ideas?

Typo. I meant: Nobody without Minor experience in cEDH at least is permitted to request. Damn Typoes... X/

Any thoughts?

Should also have to have over 100 hr of experience with boros in cEDH to comment too :P

In all seriousness, I've played cEDH for about 2-3 years as my primary format. Boros just doesn't cut it. In fact just having a bad color combination or general and adding stax to slow the broken stuff down doesn't work. Believe me, I've tried. A competitive EDH stax deck requires a general who can break parity on its own. If you want to do boros, I messed around with an aurelia stax/combo deck for awhile and it was ok. Essentially stax and tutors to buy enough time to set up the Helm of the Host combo with Aurelia, the Warleader. It looked good on paper but was horrible in practice. Stax decks need to draw cards in order to keep up with taxing/prisoning down the rest of the group. I wish you the best of luck and feel free to hit me up if you ever want a critic!

When looking at a Commander’s colour identity, I do not think of it as “what do these colours get me,” but rather “what do I lose by picking these colours?” By starting with the premise that five-colours is the “ideal” situation, I then work backwards to see if the Commander’s rules text more than compensates for the “lost” colours.

What makes keeps Boros from being competitive is that, as it stands, there is not a Commander powerful enough to make up for what is lost. Briefly, what is lost? Black’s tutors, Green’s ramp, and Blue’s card draw, counters, and other utilities.

In exchange for that loss, Boros only receives a set of incredibly mediocre commanders. The commanders either come out too late to make a difference (ex. Firesong and Sunspeaker), are just not that exciting (ex. Anax and Cymede requiring you to split attention between targeted spells and creature production), or are just generally outclassed by another Commander (ex. Najeela, the Blade-Blossom does infinite combat steps akin to Aurelia, the Warleader, but can also be played earlier, and go off earlier due to the cards five-colours provides).

Well... Apparently everyone claims I should run Aurelia...

...& Boros Stax.

...

Shame I already have a Stax Deck in the works. I just wanted some options for this kind of deck: Alms Collector against X Draws, Rule of Law to lockdown combos, Manabarbs which can deal damage just by tapping lands, Aven Mindcensor/Stranglehold to stop tutors, etc. Those kinds of cards. I hope you understand. I'll settle on Aurelia if nobody can find some options too...

Although...

Aurelia, the Warleader seems like a better option as it is, now I thought about it...

I'll try a Stax/Aggro deck, if there is such an idea in the first place.

Anyone in disagreeance?

Actually, I'll leave it to the cEDH community to decide my fate...

What Boros Commander do you think has the best potential for Tier 2.5+ rank without much need for Stax? Just wondering as I'd like your perceptiveness about the predicament.

Also; Did anyone forget this...

I actually have one card to add prior to GUILDS OF RAVNICA. Anyone approve? It'll at least give me time to make my tokens...
