Ideas for Halloween, this Year

I was eagerly anticipating Halloween, this year, since it is on a Saturday, which happens only once every five or six years, but this pandemic has severely affected nearly every aspect of life. My original plan was to go to Salem and walk around in a costume, seeing the various sights and looking for activities in which to engage, but I doubt that the city shall be having many celebrations, this year.

However, as I said, Halloween is on a Saturday, this year, which is an opportunity that is not to be missed, so there is no way that I am staying in my house on that day, so I am searching for alternative forms of entertainment to keep myself occupied.

I definitely plan to wear a costume, and perhaps I may simply have dinner at a restaurant with my friends, but that is not sufficient; I must do more than that to celebrate the day.

Does anyone here have any suggestions? What could I do on Halloween, this year?

As a side note, Halloween shall be on a Sunday, next year, so I plan to take the following Monday off from work, so that I can celebrate the day without needing to worry about going to work, the next day.

I suspect drive-in theatres across the nation will be showing Rocky Horror. That would be a fun, holiday-appropriate activity that can be done socially distanced.

My fiancée and I are planning a small house party / get together for our closest friends. Definitely a costume party.

Eat to much candy and watch a few horror flicks?

Get intoxicated, eat some good food, spend some good time with friends. The Drive-In movie seems like a sweet idea, I know a couple of my friends have done so these past few weeks.

Just pick a costume that incorporates a mask. Win win.

Pumpkin carving parties are very underrated in my opinion.... providing amount of pumpkins and stencils/supplies with food and drink and background music/movie is a really good time especially if costumes are encouraged.

I do like everyone's suggestions, and, perhaps, I shall see if my local game store has any plans for that day.

Yeah, I have a 4 year old and there is no way we aren't doing Halloween. So, I will be having a small party in my yard, come up with some covid friendly games (no bobbing for apples) and have his cousins and a few friends come by.

plenty of adult Halloween themed beverages for family or neighbors if they come by and decorate as much as humanly possible.

A friend of mine lives on a small culdesac and they have already decided that the kids will be able to come out in costume and stay in their yard while the residents drive around in a circle and throw candy out the car windows (like a parade) People will decorate their cars apparently too. Kinda like reverse trunk or treating.

Sometimes when I am feeling like I need some spooky in my life I try to find some new spooky music genres. Harder than it seems, but a couple I have found are Witch House (Salem,Crystal Castles) and Southern Gothic(16 Horsepower,The Dead South).

Another thing you could do is carve elaborate pumpkins. Protip on those, dont use the dinky tools that carving kits come with. Kitchen knives and spoons work wonders on anything semi-delicate, but for punching through the thick parts get yourself a drywall saw from any hardware store.

Depending on how cool with paganism, witchcraft, and the occult you are, you could look up some Samhain traditions. Adding those pagan parts back to halloween could give it some more oomph and feel less commercialized and seem bigger despite the wackiness of this year

Shout out to the band Dance with the Dead for some awesome 80s horror movie inspired tunes.

Another thing I like to do at Halloween is revisit all my old favorite halloween specials like "Disney's Halloween Treat", "Garfield's Halloween Adventure" or any of the many halloween episodes of my favorite old cartoons or looney tunes etc.

Most of them are up on youtube. This is also the perfect time to start rewatching "Are You Afraid of the Dark".
