Finding new things

So I just got out of a long term relationship with my fiance and now I'm trying to find myself and hobbies again. I had to move away from play groups and any lgs so magic is on the back burner for the moment.

I have tried playing video games but they aren't holding my interest like they used too, but I'm willing to try new games. I enjoy reading but don't have access to cheap books. I have started running again but that's going to take a while too get where I want to.

So my question to everyone is what do you do for fun, what are your hobbies? Where do you hear about new things like interesting movies or songs or books or anything fun. What sites do you go to?

Hey! Some of my favorite hobbies (besides Magic) are reading, anime, and art.

Books can be pretty expensive, but borrowing from a library is an easy solution. Also, many libraries have book clubs and events for free that you can spend your time on (mine has had authors come to speak, an indoor mini golf course and free ice cream to start off the summer, I was surprised at how much some libraries do).

If you’re more of an online person for reading, goodreads.com is the place to go! In addition to lots of book groups, there are many lists suggesting books of every genre. Additionally, the site offers “giveaways”; authors provide free copies that users can enter to win for free.

Now into anime, there are lots of companies that stream, like Crunchyroll and Netflix for a near $10 cost per month, but if you’re looking for a cheap alternative, many websites offer manga and anime for free (with lots of ads). Some include kissanime.ac and mangakakalot.com. There are many articles on reddit or if you google to find animes that suit your preference.

Last, ART! I enjoy photography and drawing, the latter being much cheaper. Drawing is very nice because all you need is a pencil, a piece of paper, and an open mind. There are lots of YouTube tutorials and drawing books out there to enhance your skills, and often just drawing by sight helps a lot over time.

Let me know if you have any questions! Good luck!

First off, that sucks, sorry to hear. I'm guessing it's for the best but it still sucks at the time.

As for hobbies, I've been rock climbing for just over 5 years now and I absolutely love it. It's not the cheapest hobby in the world, but it's really good for clearing your head and it's very uncommon for me to leave a climbing session without feeling like I could take on the world. If you want something you can do by yourself, bouldering is also really good. It's much shorter climbs where you don't need a harness (or climbing buddy), so you only have to worry about a pair of shoes (and a chalk bag). Most climbing gyms will have hire shoes though so you can get away with them in the first instance.

It's hard to speak on actual activity cost, I have a membership which costs me like $25 a week (I know that's expensive, but it's also Australia so depending on where you are in the world it might differ greatly). That memebership gets me unlimited entry as well as access to all the gym equipment (free-weights and stuff), so it's not like I would ever have to get a gym membership if I wanted access to equipment. I own my own shoes($260~)/harness($130~)/chalk bag($50 - but it's a custom one, they're like $12 for a basic one). You can buy a basic pair of shoes for ~$100 and they will last you a few years depending on make and climbing style.

If your housing allows it get a pet. They'll keep you company and if you get a dog he can be your running partner. And if your having trouble getting back into games maybe try something tarts not a traditional video game like until dawn or detroit become human
