Maybeboard

I have always loved Zur. It's been a favorite Esper commander of mine, and I know that he's used competitively. Well, I never liked the competitive setup people run with him. Very boring.

So, I'm going to focus on pillowfort/stax build that emphasizes quality pillow fort techniques along with solid table locking.

Key combos:

Decree of Silence + Solemnity - No counters get put on Decree, therefore it counters every spell my opponent's play.

Energy Field + Rest in Peace - Since the cards never hit the graveyard, Energy Field is never sacrificed.

Knowledge Pool + Rule of Law / Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir / Arcane Laboratory - This is a REALLY solid lock down that keeps everyone from playing cards. Knowledge Pool forces you to play two spells if you try to play one. Any of the other combo pieces say you can't play more than 1. So, it locks down all playing.

Stasis + Vedalken Mastermind - Stasis locks out untap step, while Mastermind allows me to put it back into my hand. Thus allowing me to play it every turn.

Beacon of Immortality + Tainted Remedy - Tainted Remedy all life gain become life loss. Using Overwhelming Splendor, you can double someone's life. According to the rules, any increase even to a specific point is considered gaining. So, you're basically making someone lose all their life in one turn.

Rest in Peace + Helm of Obedience - With Rest in Peace in play, no cards go to graveyards, and a replacement effect forces them out of the game. Helm will mill someone X until a creature card or X cards is put into their graveyard. Since they never go to the graveyard, you can infinite exile-mill someone for 1

Second Chance + Vedalken Mastermind - Similar in theory to the Statis combo, you put Second Chance into your hand, so you can regularly get the ability to happen. Having Necropotence in play first is incredibly helpful, but this is a great, late game win con once you've set up your Zur package. Once you're down to 5 health, at upkeep with the ability on the stack, bounce Second Chance to your hand, granting you an extra turn. Play Second Chance again, and repeat.

Academy Rector + Overwhelming Splendor - Academy Rector fetches Overwhelming Splendor when she dies, and I attached it to an opponent.

Updates Add

So, I have had a chance to continue to play Zur. I love this deck more each time. The board states continue to be nonsense and really oppressive.

It's actually getting a little hard for my playgroup, so I will be bringing back Yuriko at some point.

An update to the deck included the Hannah, Ship's Navigator + Stasis combo. I found that the combo doesn't actually work as well as I'd like it to, because it still affects me. When I'm able to get rid of Stasis, I've already lost my Untap phase. As a result, I lose a turn with Zur. Hannah can get it back from the graveyard, but not before it hurts me.

As such, I have dropped Hannah, and replaced her with Cyclonic Rift.

I have also changed out some lands, but I see no reason to update land choices, as it will be always revolving. Unless I have a really good land I missed.
