Zedruu for Chaotic Control Player

Commander / EDH

dentaus18

My friend Willow hardly ever plays Magic; she will usually not play unless bribed. So I made this deck in case she ever does play, as she usually enjoys playing group hug because it doesn't get her targetted. However, she enjoys chaos when it occurs.

This will probably be the most hated and loved decks in our play group.

Building Strategy:Of course I took into account mana. WUR is probably one of the most difficult colors to ramp. But in the end, I tried to make most cards center around 3 mana, as Zedruu just needs to give them away. Zedruu can give away global effects and also cards that have great enter the battlefield effects but are otherwise very punishing.

Strategy:Generally, play a card, and then give it away. It is simple. There are three win cons:1) Felidar Sovereign2) Lab Maniac3) Aetherflux Reservoir4) Everyone scoops. Most of the time, 1 or 3 occurs.

BUT WAITWhy didn't you build to win? Is the point not to succeed?I agree with you, but look at it like this. A red player will show up with a simple task in mind with their strategy (I'm speaking generally here as a red player at heart). You will nbever not reduce their life to zero. You just creative in how you do that. You say screw everything and then you beat them in the face. You will run chaotic boardwipes, maybe even more chaotic cards, but you will always beat them in the face. Or burn them. Whichever your heart desires. You play with simplicity; you don't go for complication, but you instead work towards the simplicity of your goals.

A blue player plays completely differently. They think, calculating the perfect time to respond and always keeping track of card advantage. Mono blue can control instances more so then the general play of the game. Blue can also be wuite chaotic, enabling and disabling lots of strategies.

Then white. I do not see them often. Usually, they build life-gain, or what I call, "military style"; the deck that uses Odric as a commander that can effectively beat down your opponent. Usually, white lacks the card draw and ramp. However, there is a style of white that I do hate with a burning passion: control. They will hear that you and your friends and going to play magic, and they will say, "Oh? I don't want to play Magic." Then, they pick up a dice and roll to see if they can go first. Then, they gradually shut down everything. Torpor Orb, Stony Silence, and countless others gradually come into play until no one can do anything. It is the most painful thing to go through. Then, they ruin the game for each of you one by one, if they haven't done so already. Here Elf player: Overwhelming Splendor. Here Grixis combo: Curse of Exhaustion. Oh Tokens? You want to swing at me? Well, I got Ghostly Prison and Sphere of Safety, so if you have the mana... go ahead.I hate them. They die very quickly now when I play against them.So when building this deck, I had to make something that:A. Has a simple strategy but complicaed cards (like my red decks)B. Can worry about specific situations and instances and can regulate card advantage (like blue can)C. Can control the game so everyone can build slowly instead of quickly (like white control can)D. Gains life and draws cards while all of this occurs. And behold my grandeur.
