I got inspired to try building around Kor Spiritdancer again. The goal of this deck is to control the board state with counterpells and 'removal' such as
Forced Worship
until the opponent launches their win condition, then take it with
Volition Reins
. The spiritdancer serves to keep card advantage as you shut down man lands with Spreading Seas (draw two!), lock down threats with
Forced Worship
, and two-for-one creature threats with
Mind Control
. She also turns Eel Umbra into a totally decent combat trick/day of judgment shield.
I played this deck at a local playtest with some competetive decks, and was pleasantly surprised. Against 'suture sisters' with stoneforge mystic package the matches started off scary but I usually managed to stabilize and turn the game in my favor, i went 2-1, without ever even seeing Day of Judgment.
Against classic blue-white caw-blade I managed to put up quite a fight, even
Volition Reins
ing (is that a verb?) Jace, the Mind Sculptor and using it to my advantage, taking swords and a batterskull but i was never able to fight off the inevitable well-equipped win.
Overall though, i'm pleased with the deck's performance and will continue to tinker with it. Funnest moment of the evening: with two Kor Spiritdancer on the board, i cast Spreading Seas to down a celestial colonnade, draw three cards, draw into another spreading seas, draw three more cards. Probably should have thought that out better as i ended up discarding, but hey, it was awesome.
