Maybeboard

This is a Competitive Yidris deck i made a while ago. It works pretty good, however it is not updated with any of the cards from the newest sets, so anyone looking to copy or make your own should definitely look around for improvements.

Those who haven't had the experience of taking a 20 minute turn and storming out in EDH need to know a few things if you're wishing to create a similar build. Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder is a 4 color commander, so he's VERY color heavy being . You need to ramp him out as fast as possible before people start setting up their boards or have enough mana to respond to your plays. Play as many early turn mana artifacts and Ramp as you can to get him out by turn 3 at the latest. Yidris isn't very good mid to late game if your deck is centered around his Cascade ability.

For those who already play Yidris and are looking for some ideas, that's cool too. If anyone has experience with the general and has some good card ideas to add in, please feel free to mention them.

You will see some of the ''high end'' cards, mainly tutors and lands are not included in the deck for price reasons and or inaccessibility. Which i'm sure many can understand, however if you are looking to build this deck and want to maximize its potential or just upgrade your own even further, i highly suggest adding some of these in such as;

  • Grim Tutor
  • Mox Opal
  • Yawgmoth's Will
  • Time Spiral
  • Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
  • Wheel of Fortune
  • This build does not use the Ad Nauseam + Doomsday combo in it like a lot of Yidris decks do. Mostly because there's more than a few ways to win in this build and all can be achieved rather easily, so it doesn't really require for another degenerative combo in the deck. However, adding the combo will increase the decks potency quite a bit considering Laboratory Maniac is already in there.

  • Crop Rotation - Can be put in if your playgroup has a lot of blue. Crop lets you search out Cavern of Souls which prevents Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder from being countered.
  • Dispel + Swan Song - Seem kind of silly because if you cascade into them you run the risk of a dead spell unless you counter something else in your stack, but there are instances where you can cascade into them with a 2 drop with some top deck manipulation or get it off Brainstorm / tutor into them.
  • Pyroblast - Same reason as dispel and swan song, except with Pyroblast it can ONLY counter blue spells, however if you cascade into it, it won't be dead because you have the option to destroy a blue permanent instead.
  • Hurkyl's Recall - For group's with a lot of artifact decks, mainly stax or a lot of artifact reliant mana bases to put them behind, such as; Grixis, Mono blue, Mardu, mono white and mono red
