Yawgmoth's Grand Scheme

Commander / EDH Mono-Black

Cory_Mac

Gameplan:

This is a mono-black reanimator deck with -1/-1 counter and token sub-themes. Yawgmoth's first ability is the key to the deck's engine, but other shenanigans around reanimation can occur without him. Often, Yawgmoth is not cast until there is a critical mass of sacrifice-fodder for him, or adequate protection from removal, but once he hits the board in that state, the deck's chances of winning skyrocket.

Notable Synergies:

Mikaeus, the Unhallowed combos with any 2 non-human creatures and Yawgmoth on the battlefield by using Yawgmoth's first ability to sacrifice an undying creature to remove the +1/+1 counter from another.

Nest of Scarabs makes a token every time a -1/-1 counter is placed on a creature, which can be sacrificed to repeat the process as many times as there are points of toughness on the battlefield.

Golgari Thug lets you sacrifice it to Yawgmoth to return a creature from grave to hand, plus it has dredge to get it back into your hand and fill the grave with targets.

Vilis, Broker of Blood is best friends with K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth or Doom Whisperer and they will draw through the deck very quickly.

Speaking of Yawgmoth's unruly son, K'rrik, he can let you pay life to activate Yawgmoth's proliferate ability and ultimate planeswalkers.
