Xenagos – Pursuit of divinity

Hey guys! In my playgroup we like to spice things up when we play commander and therefore we have joined the trend(?) of switching our commanders out with a planeswalker – other than the 2014 planewalker commanders.

This is my Xenagos, the Reveler deck, and it is based on the idea of Xenagos wanting to become a god on the plane of Theros.

In order to achieve this, Xenagos likes to call upon his friends of the forest in order to make himself as powerful as possible. In this deck I use Xenagos'+1 to create a lot of mana with help from small critters in order to drop the big bombs later on.

One of the main ways of doing this is to put out some tokens early in the game and/or mana-creature, in order to make Xenagos' +1 become something like: add 5 mana in any combination of and to your manapool.

Main cards for making Xenagos a true mana burster:

1) Basically anything that makes tokens will be worth its while along the way in this deck.

2) more specific cards: Birds of Paradise , Sylvan Cyriatid, Beetleback Chief , Chancellor of the Forge , Ant Queen , Avenger of Zendikar , Hornet Queen , Krenko, Mob Boss , Mycolyth, Myr Battlesphere , Rampaging Baloths , Artifact Mutation , Sprout Swarm , Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury , Garruk, Primal Hunter , Goblin Offensive and Squirrel Nest – all of course improved with Doubling Season and/or Parallel Lives .

Even with just a few of these cards you will get a pretty awesome manabase really quick.

After getting out the Critters you can finish the game – and ofte quite quick – with cards like: Chancellor of the Forge (who is also by himself a token spawner), Craterhoof Behemoth (of course), Dragon Broodmother , Hellkite Charger (in combination with Bear Umbra or Sword of Feast and Famine ), Kamahl, Fist of Krosa , Nylea, God of the Hunt , Purphoros, God of the Forge (if he hasn't already killed the opponent), Vitalizing Wind , Overrun , Triumph of the Horde (Nasty card with Siege Behemoth or a live Purphoros, God of the Forge ) and finally Beastmaster Ascension .

Other cards to enable a lot of damage: Siege Behemoth and Thunderfoot Baloth

Even more fixers to make your creatures hit fast and hard: Sarkhan Vol , Urabrask the Hidden and Eldrazi Monument .

A "quick-fix" in the deck is often to put out Chancellor of the Forge and Craterhoof Behemoth together, with Tooth and Nail . Other ways to get them are with either Fauna Shaman or Sylvan Tutor . Fauna Shaman is somewhat better in this deck than Survival of the Fittest , since she can provide an extra / with Xenagos.

There are also a few combos in the deck:

1) Earthcraft + Doubling Season / Parallel Lives + Ant Queen = Infinite tokens.

2) Earthcraft + Doubling Season + Parallel Lives + Ant Queen = Infinite Tokens and Infinite mana + Urabrask the Hidden = Win

3) Squirrel Nest (on a basic land) + Earthcraft = Infinite Squirrels... Who can say no to that? Nut me... pun intended. Sorry it's just because i'm nuts. Ok i'll stop now.

All of the above named can also make infinite mana with Xenagos after the tokens are on the BF. Also they wil make infinite damage together with Purphoros, God of the Forge and a possibility of infinite combat damage with craterhoof and/or Chancellor of the Forge

4) The forenamed: Hellkite Charger + Bear Umbra / Sword of Feast and Famine if you can produce with your lands.

Finally we must not forget Xenagos'-6 which could provide us with some beasts just before the big swing.

So there it is. Xenagos' big plan in his pursuit of divinity... Yeah yeah yeah I know i messed up by actually putting Xenagos, God of Revels in the deck, but for flavour lets just say I don't play him before I know I'm going to win and that, that is a statement of Xengos actually achieving divinity!
