Azami, Lady of Scrolls Primer!

Introduction

Why Azami? Show

As always EDH deck creators should ask themselves several questions: is it mono-colored? does it lead to degenerate combos? and does it have wizards?

This deck checks all boxes and leads to friends becoming acquaintances, and acquaintances still being acquaintances because that's how those work.

Azami hails from the plane of Kamigawa. In her early life she experienced tragedy in her mom dying over the course of a month. While her mom was dying she did not help her, instead she focused her energy on studying in the library. In her later life she convinced a friend to sneak into the Kitanosu Temple to collect scrolls. While there she was forced to chose between her friend and the scrolls, she made the obvious choice. Azami represents the essence of blue magic and wizards, this (and her use in broken combos) is what makes her the perfect commander for this deck.

Brief Power Level Description Show

This deck is neither casual nor competitive, it exists somewhere in a turn 4-6 win in a vacuum. The decrease in competitiveness stems from low levels of interaction with opponents instants, and enchantments. The speed could be increased by the addition of high dollar mana rocks.

Combos Show

Azami's Criters Show

Azami having a wizard tribal theme is great because of her sheer card advantage from taping them. However, quite a few cards in this deck should be in any mono blue edh deck regardless of the awesome fact that they are wizards. These cards are as follows:

Degenerate Spells and Creatures Show

Blue is no stranger to annoyed opponents and accusations of violating the social rules of commander. So this deck aims to stick to the public perception in this case. With this in mind here are some of the simply rude stand alone cards in the deck:

• Consecrated Sphinx for massive/onsided card draw.
• Cyclonic Rift for onsided board wipes affecting only your opponents.
• Enter the Infinite for drawing your entire library.
• Gather Specimens for stealing an opponents creatures and ETB
• Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur for massive, onsided card draw, and hand disruption.
• Lighthouse Chronologist for onesided/out of control extra turns.
• Omniscience for literally free spells.
• Rhystic Study for onesided draw and annoying "are you gonna pay two for that."

Piloting the Deck

Early Game Show

As mentioned in the mana rock section above, this deck requires a decent amount of mana to both function and to combo off. With this in mind the opening hand needs a minimum of three lands unless there is a mana rock with cmc of 2 or less then you can try the two mana with the rock. Early game it is important to try and balance between getting creatures out for drawing cards, and keeping mana up to counter spells.

Late Game Show

Towards the late game (typically turn 3-7 in a vacuum with good mana rocks) we want to assemble the combo pieces as seen in the combo section above. To do this we need to get an early ramp, and get some early game wizards so we can get our draw engine online.
