Sideboard

This is an elemental tribal deck that uses mass milling and discarding to win the game. This deck focuses on three major steps.

Step 1: Use as many "wheel" effects as you can. This fills your hand and your grave but most importantly it messes with your opponents plays. With 13 wheel-like effects you can consistently repeat this process.

Step 2: Getting the right mana. It's really easy for 5 colored decks to fall behind. Especially using cards that are very color specific. In order to keep this deck up to speed, without spending tons of money, it uses lands that seem unusual, but they follow this criteria.

  • Avoid lands that enter play tapped. Every time you put a land into play tapped and your opponent doesn't you fall a turn behind. So reducing the amount of tapped lands is key.

  • Use as many five color producing lands. These lands are great for the versatility you get in casting cards. However, there are a limited amount of lands like this in the game.

  • Assess and Tutor. The panorama lands are usually looked down upon but in our case they are fantastic. They enter play untapped, meaning they can be used the turn they come in. They also tutor for basic lands allowing the deck to fix its mana for the next turn. This the same for the filter lands. Depending on what stage of the game you are in these lands give you the option of making the best decision at the time.

Step 3: Filling the field. The creatures in this deck, for the most part, have high casting costs. By wheeling them to the grave you are now able to use Horde of Notions ability. Pay to avoid the cost and return your creatures to the field at instant speed. With most of them having "enter the battlefield" you get considerable bang for your buck that helps keep your opponents at bay.

I really enjoy playing with this deck and encourage any player who is interested in getting a taste of 5 color tribal to give it a try. The only thing I'll advise for this deck is it is very Rocky Balboa. You will have turns where you just block with your face. Don't be afraid to wheel and adjust your mana while your board is empty. It is going to take a turn or two to get to the point where you can start to play creatures. Just finish steps 1 & 2 and you will hold steady and win.
