Raven's Crime is an awesome card. Can get reused late late game when you draw lands to keep their hand low.

Thanks! I will look into that. I think I may actually move away from untargeted discard, and more towards things like Thoughtseize that allow me to choose their discard. I also need more win cons I've decided.

Check out this 8Rack Primer. I was looking into this deck a little bit ago and it can be fun to play but it can be extremely grindy sometimes. But they have many different builds on the forum depending on which style you like to play.

I would think going full on 8Rack and going -3 hypnotic Specter and -2 Guul Daz Specter for maybe +1 Rack +1 Affliction and +3 Raven's Crime. Its just so good at keeping their hand down late game since you're running no draw spells. But this is only if you don't like combat. If you do, creatureless can get boring, but it shuts off removal which most decks run.

Thanks man! I'm fairly new to B/R, especially in modern, so I will definitely check that out.

I currently play esper control in standard, so I have no problem with low creature games.

Drop the Damnation . U run 20 lands, odds of u casting it when u need aren't the best.

I would drop Wrench Mind since u have Blightning instead.

Run 4x Ensnaring Bridge in those slots, and 1x Necrogen Mists . Truthfully since u don't have Lilly worked in yet, u probably should find room for 4x Necrogen Mists as well.

Another benefit of playing B/R 8Rack is Rix Maadi, Dungeon Palace

heres my build... Rakdos's 8RACK

I constantly contemplate if adding Blood Moon will push it over the top.

Thanks for the advice! I'm still new to 8rack builds, so I'm still trying to figure out which direction I want to go. Lili is definitely a goal, but it'll take a while to trade up to them.

With all of the 1 drops, I'd probably relegate Bojuka Bog to the sideboard. Other than that, this looks like a great deck.

Considering Ghost Quarter , at least for the sideboard, as well as possibly something like Crucible of Worlds since I'll probably be discarding a lot of cards myself (and discarding lots of lands to Raven's Crime ). I own the cards, so it wouldn't cost me much. Thoughts?

Crucible of Worlds would also allow me to play Smallpox and not take such a hit from the land sacking.

Rakdos Charm . That is your sideboard. Rakdos Charm . This card has modes that hose all three of the number one decks, and then some.

Mode Number One: By exiling all cards in a graveyard, you can immediately gimp a Dredgevine deck, erase all the text on Snapcaster Mage , and stop Melira Pod's combos (because the persist creature hits the graveyard, then the return trigger goes on the stack.) Need I say more here?

Mode Number Two: Very good against Affinity. This will probably be your only answer to a resolved Cranial Plating off the top of the deck, and can act as extra copies of Terminate if they don't run Welding Jar (few lists do, these days). Besides its obvious uses against Affinity, it can also bust a Birthing Pod or any other miscellaneous artifact.

Mode Number Three: This seems useless at first, but it can actually instantly kill a Splinter Twin player. You wait until they declare an attack with their near infinite tokens, then fire off Rakdos Charm to nuke them before they get to nuke you.

Seriously, I would not pick up fewer than two of these. Unlike other hate cards which single out a strategy or archetype, this hates on all Tier one decks, and then does collateral.

@LittleLeaf: That's actually a really good suggestion, and I'm surprised I missed it considering I run a Standard B/R list with 4 Rakdos Charm in the side. I guess I just never really applied the uses to modern. Thanks!

nice deck +1

maybe Slaughter Games to side against combos. and Sowing Salt to side against tron and manlands

The problem with both of those cards is that they cost 4 mana. I only run 19 lands, and really want to max out at 3 cmc. I also already have Extirpate in the side, which can fill both of the roles you mentioned as long as 1 copy of the target card is already in the graveyard, which isn't too difficult given that its a discard deck. Thanks for the +1 though!

Do you like the Scepter over Raven's Crime ? That's what I'm currently using as my recyclable discard engine, and it seems to work really well. Gives me something to do with late game land draws.

APPLE01DOJ says... #20

I think dropping 1x Raven's Crime for 1x Scepter of Fugue is worth it.

Alright. I might test it out a little bit.

kylothian says... #22

question can you repeatedly use Raven's Crime in the graveyard or can you only retrace once?

May 7, 2014 12:57 a.m.

kmcree says... #23

You can retrace it as many times as you have lands to discard.

kylothian says... #24

wow thats nice... so hey i was wondering if you could take a look at my deck hand lock out and share any thoughts on it. I really like your discard deck.

kylothian - To add a link, the format is [Name](link). So for example, if you do this: [Monoblack Vampire](http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/monoblack-vampire-17-04-14-1/)

Then it'll show up like this: Monoblack Vampire.

kmcree - Very nice deck. I'm on edge about 3x Ensnaring Bridge though. Maybe drop one of them and add a Crucible of Worlds so that you can retrace Raven's Crime every time you draw a land, and then simply put that land back into play from the graveyard. Then if you do go that route, drop 2x swamp for 2x Tectonic Edge so you can keep up on land destruction if you're running out of things to do.
