Tried my hand at a budget Breeches and Malcolm deck. Group hug elements such as Dictate of Kruphix and Well of Ideas are budget ways to help with card draw and punish opponents thanks to Emberwilde Captain and Iron Maiden.

Card draw helps Ominous Seas get more counters to pump out Krakens that our pirates led to the battle. Plus with opponents drawing cards thanks to Otherworld Atlas and the two enchantments mentioned prior, it’ll hopefully stave off negative feelings from smashing our opponents in the face and stealing their loot with Breeches, Brazen Plunderer. Filling their hand also can assist Zara, Renegade Recruiter in grabbing a good creature from them for a turn.

Tamiyo's Journal gives us an extra draw each upkeep for two mana, or a free tutor after three turns. It could also be copied with Stolen Identity to get those Clues faster, but that’ll usually be reserved for creatures such as Port Razer which can become infinite combat steps with Hammer of Purphoros and if Archetype of Imagination is out or our port pillaging pal has some form of evasion that can be granted to the new copies.

Speaking of which, thanks to multimedia, Departed Deckhand can easily give our creatures a way in on our opponents. If Port Razer is granting us extra combats, that’s more opportunities for Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator to give us treasures which can be dumped into Glint-Horn Buccaneer or Comet Storm to win us the game.
