UKKIMA AND CAZUR, THE MARSH STALKERS [Voltron]

Commander / EDH BUG (Sultai) Casual Counters Multiplayer Mutate Voltron

BRAZATO

Maybeboard

My partner Ukkima, Stalking Shadow   and Cazur, Ruthless Stalker   EDH Multiplayer deck.

It's a voltron build I'm trying to improve bit by bit. It centers into usingUkkima, Stalking Shadow   unblockable ability and his Death/Leave the Battlefield trigger combined with +1/+1 counters and cards that can buff him to make severe damage to the opponents. The deck also has some instant iteraction to protect Ukkima or make it die / leave the battlefield when needed. Any help or ideas are welcomed!!!

BASIC DECK TECH

FIRST TURNS
Our goal it's to play and keep protected Ukkima, Stalking Shadow   as soon as possible, to keep him attacking and growing. We play lots of low CMC ramp cards like Wild Growth, Farseek, Fertile Ground, Rampant Growth, Into the North (We have some Snow lands to take advantage of it). But although we have green in our color combination, to keep a high speed we also play mana rocks like Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Talisman of Dominance, Simic Signet and Dimir Signet. I specially recommend the Dimir producing ones as we want to sequre to have access to blue and black mana for Ukkima, in a deck where we have more green1 mana than other (as we have more green cards and ramp cards than in the other two colors). Last, Sword of the Animist can abuse Ukkima unblockable ability to keep ramping when attacjing.

PROTECTING UKKIMA
Ukkima, Stalking Shadow   may look harmless at the begining, but when we keep equiping, enchanting and filling him with +1/+1 counters it will drag many attention, even when his second ability can punish our opponents for killing or exiling it. That's why we'll play a bunch of ways to protect Ukkima from removals or control. Kaya's Ghostform, Snake Umbra and Bear Umbra can prevent Ukkima of dying. Blossoming Defense, Snakeskin Veil, Counterspell and Teferi's Time Twist can defend him at instant speed. Teferi's Time Twist will also trigger the leave the battlefield ability of Ukkima. An Ukkima with +1/+1 counters can also be protected by Plaxcaster Frogling. Swiftfoot Boots and Sword of Feast and Famine will also protect him in some situations when equiped, and we can use Crystal Shard or Temur Sabertooth to save Ukkima puting him in our hand and triggering it's Leave the Battlefield ability. About Sword of Feast and Famine, remember that it's protection from green and black can disrupt some of your plays, so even if it's very powerful and and it's worth it to use, equip it to Ukkima wisely.

+1/+1 GROWTH
The first way to pump Ukkima are +1/+1 counters. This is because thanks to our other partner commander, Cazur, Ruthless Stalker  , we have sequred a way to give him +1/+1 counters in the command zone, although it's an unnefficient way compared to others, we'll always have access to it, so adding a +1/+1 counter theme it's a good way to do the job. Evolutionary Escalation will pump Ukkima very fast and we can use it to pump strategic enemy creatures to make deals to our opponents or simply help the opponents we need. Plaxcaster Frogling will graft +1/+1 counters to our creatures to protect them. Invigorating Surge and Inscription of Abundance can surprise the opponents by adding +1/+1 counters at instant speed. Hydra's Growth and Hadana's Climb   will work slower but can make Ukkima very big if not controlled. Hardened Scales, Corpsejack Menace, Pir, Imaginative Rascal and Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider will accelerate the +1/+1 growth. We also have some security systems to recover +1/+1 counters from our dying creatures: The Ozolith and Reyhan, Last of the Abzan. And last, Unspeakable Symbol is one of our secret techs. It can generate absurd amounts of +1/+1 counters. It will cost us lot of life, but when Ukkima can transform that lost life into lethal damage or recover it by dying or leaving the battlefield this can be destructive. And with some of the +1/+1 counter enhancers, Unspeakable Symbol with Ukkima can be gamechanging.

ALTERNATIVE PUMP UPS
Not all the deck spin around +1/+1 counters, as there are aditional ways of growing Ukkima. Colossification can make Ukkima a 22/22 unblockable commander... and if dies or leaves the battlefield before attacking, this 22 damage will reach an opponent anyway. Blackblade Reforged can also make Ukkima a very big threath, specially if we are in late game with large amounts of lands in our board. Loxodon Warhammer and other equipments and auras can also pump Ukkima while giving him useful abilities or keywords. Finally we also play some mutate creatures: Gemrazer and Sawtusk Demolisher will serve as removals while making Ukkima's base power and toughness bigger. Brokkos, Apex of Forever will make a Ukkima a 6/6, and if Brokkos ends in the graveyard will still be capable of mutate Ukkima or other creatures we control again and again granting us power no matter what. Mutate is a fun ability and can work very well with +1/+1 counters or with effects that can blink (Teferi's Time Twist), return to our hand (Crystal Shard) or resurrect (Kaya's Ghostform) our mutation pile, allowing us to recover the full pack of mutated creatures.

CARD ADVANTAGE
Although we are in Sultai, with access to blue and black card draw, our main card draw engines will be green, as we can access to a very grown creature to draw cards based on creature power. Soul's Majesty, Return of the Wildspeaker *f-pre* and Hunter's Insight will give us tons of card draw if we have big creatures thanks to our equipments, mutations and +1/+1 counters. Toothy, Imaginary Friend can also growth while we keep playing our main strategy and when it leaves the battlefield it will replenish our hand. Mythos of Brokkos will help us to recover key cards and search the perfect card for each situation. Remember we also have an unblockable commander, so cards like Curiosity, Keen Sense, Snake Umbra and Toski, Bearer of Secrets will become nice card draw engines. And last, sometimes we will need to make Ukkima die to generate advantage or just to defend him from our enemies control. Cards like Momentous Fall, Village Rites and Greater Good can sacrifice Ukkima at instant speed while giving us nice card draw.

INTERACTION
While our deck is a very straight forward voltron deck, we still need to have some kind of way of disrupt some of our best enemies plays to prevent them of winning. We are in sultai, so we will have access to many of the best removals and counters of all MTG. In my personal case, the budget destined to my deck in this moment isn't very high, so I'll just tell what control I play, but claiming that probable exist better cards than these. Counterspell will block any key play without downside. Deadly Rollick will usually be a free removal as we have access to two commanders. Beast Within can destroy almost anything in the board. Inscription of Abundance can use one of our big creatures to kill an enemy one. Deadly Tempest and Gaze of Granite will act as mass removals, one versus creatures and the other against almost anything. Deadly Tempest will also punish opponents that play large amounts of creatures, thing that this deck doesn't. Gemrazer and Sawtusk Demolisher are also nice targeted removals. This amount of removal and counters could be improved sacrificing other cards of the deck, but this will depend the meta you play.
