Maybeboard

Welcome to my Trynn and Silvar deck! I hope to eventually write something of a primer for these underrated commanders from Commander 2020, but until I have time to work that up I am posting my list with a brief summary of what I've learned about the deck so far. Do feel to ask questions or leave comments of you either play or are interested in playing this great pair.

The most important thing to note at the beginning is that despite Silvar's sacrifice ability this is not primarily an aristocrats deck. For those who want that pick your Teysa, but this pair is primarily a humans aggro deck with a light aristocrats subtheme. The purpose of sacrifice in this deck is to protect Silvar, occasionally to protect our board, to provide incremental value that should be clear in the list (draw cards, etc), and as a dis-incentive to do what aggro decks hate the most, namely, wiping the board. In this respect, we'll never really mind that Silvar can only sacrifice humans as we'll rarely want to sacrifice anything else. In fact, I've found that unlike in true aristocrats deck, we'll find that we are sacrificing things for unconventional reasons to great effect. For instance, a couple of nights ago I was staring down a Descend upon the Sinful on the Stack. In response I sacced my entire board, including Trynn, to Silvar at instant speed. I then returned them all on my turn with an Angel of Glory's Rise and was able to put my opponents away.

Other than that, this plays mostly like a humans based aggro deck. We want to ramp early, get out our commanders, establish a good attacking force, and set up a draw engine once our hand gets low. We'll be attacking every turn, and using any human tokens or other humans if necessary to keep Silvar protected from removal. We've got Flawless Maneuver, card:Gerard, Weatherlight Captain, and Eldrazi Monument to protect our board from removal and four synergistic aristocrats to make it unpleasant for our opponents if they succeed. We also have Alesha, Who Smiles at Death and Angel of Glory's Rise to return lost pieces to play. Cathars' Crusade and Shared Animosity can amplify our damage greatly, and card:Odric, Lunarch Marshall, Frontier Warmonger, and card:Fumiko the Lowblooded can help us to push damage through. We've also got Mana Echoes, Fires of Invention, and Winota, Joiner of Forces to help us ramp out pieces at warp speed. We also have three flexible tutors in Idyllic Tutor, card:Dimir Houseguard, and Thalia's Lancers to get what we need when we need it. If things go against us board wise, Urza's Ruinous Blast, Settle the Wreckage, and Mass Calcify can blow them out while usually leaving us in an advantageous position.

My aim in this deck is to make it around a seven on the power scale (as defined on the Command Zone podcast), and to be a "fair" deck I can play more casually with friends. It can be pushed to higher levels of power by including various versions of the Splinter Twin/Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker combo, but I've elected not to go that route here.
