Combo testing —Aug. 16, 2021

Utilizing the suggestions made by Kalkris, I'm going to swap in Sedgemoor Witch and Chain of Smog, and swapping out Chandra, Fire Artisan and Author of Shadows for now.

In a nutshell, utilize Chain of Smog to target yourself and copy it repeatedly while Sedgemoor Witch, or Storm-Kiln Artist + Reckless Fireweaver / Mayhem Devil / Disciple of the Vault / Marionette Master are onboard to make use of their Magecraft triggers to either create an arbitrary number of Pest tokens or Treasure tokens. If Storm-Kiln is on board, any of the other listed creatures can be utilized to create the burn off Treasure tokens either being created, or being sacrificed. Additional routes with Storm-Kiln could be to dump the arbitrary number of Treasure into Torment of Hailfire or Exsanguinate

May also consider a spot for Underworld Breach. TBD. Gotta test the rest of this out first.

Have you considered the interaction between Storm-Kiln Artist and the addition of Chain of Smog? I know it’s a bit overdone to combo Chain with magecraft, but it facilitates a load of mana and a potential wincon off Revel in Riches as well.

Thanks for the suggestion Kalkris. I honestly hadn't considered that combo for this deck. I think after the Chain of Smog + Professor Onyx combo blew up, it fell off my radar. The endless spoiler seasons have also made it harder to keep track of everything lol.

The only combo I was considering adding so far was Dualcaster Mage + Twinflame; I figured Dualcaster could be a decent value piece for copying spells, regardless of the combo. After the couple of games I played this weekend, I have been kicking the idea around the back of my mind of a more spell-slinger dedicated Prosper list. At the very least, I'd like to add maybe one or two more pieces of instant speed interaction, perhaps Withering Boon

Been keeping eyes on this and I think your deck is really shaping up. I certainly want to play it lol. I don't think it's fair to call this a precon upgrade anymore lol, this is a Prosper deck

Thank you d_iros, I've had a lot of fun brewing and playing the deck so far. I want to get some more games in with the deck in its current form before I make anymore changes. Documenting brewing considerations and updating the primer is fun for me too, so I'll try to keep this as up-to-date as possible.

In the games I have played, I've noticed that my 2 favorite things to exile with Prosper are Lands and instant speed interaction. Even though opponents can see what instants are exiled with Prosper, it does act as a bit of a dissuasion for one turn rotation.

At this rate, I think the next 2-3 cards I might try to squeeze in are Withering Boon, Abrade, and maaayyyybbeeee Chain of Smog for a combo option with Storm-Kiln Artist and the artifact burn creature package. Just need a few more games to see what underperforms.

So, while it’s not 100% synergistic with the deck, if you add in Chain of Smog as per my suggestion, you’d be behooved (heh heh) to add in at least one more Magecraft card, like Sedgemoor Witch, I’d expect. Not only does this add a bit more interlocking synergy but it also provides you with a theoretical go-wide wincon.

As for a cut if you need it, I’ve actually found that Author of Shadows sort of underperforms at 5mv for me. That’s my personal recommendation to cut, but there may be more than that. That’s what I saw right away though. How does it perform for you specifically?

Thanks for the additional suggestions Kalkris. Sedgemoor Witch is a pretty interesting suggestion. I hadn't really considered it before. I definitely wouldn't mind a handful of Pests as chump blockers (most of the time), which could be a go-wide win-con with Chain of Smog.

I've only played Author of Shadows in a couple of the games I've played this deck so far. I think I have enough decks in my play group's meta that utilize their graveyards to make Author worth it for now. Here is a fairly up to date snapshot of the various commanders in my meta. This is our updated meta page on Moxfield (lol). It does feel a bit slow for the effect it has, so I'll consider it as a potential cut.

I'm a bit tempted to slot in Share the Spoils as a more goofy/interactive effect for some reason. I've also considered Chandra, Fire Artisan as a potential cut, but not necessarily for Share the Spoils. I think I have enough draw -impulse & otherwise - that I figured I could use the slot for another piece of interaction (or Chain of Smog).
