More games & also sadness lol —Aug. 7, 2021

Played a couple more games with Prosper last night, and jeez were they intense. TL;DR - I'm swapping out Conspiracy Theorist for Chaos Warp, and Inspiring Statuary for Swiftfoot Boots (for now).

First game was fairly brutal. Other commanders at the table were: Tinybones, Trinket Thief, Gyruda, Doom of Depths, and Sakashima of a Thousand Faces//Kodama of the East Tree. The game got taken over around turn 5, realistically turn 4, when Gyruda hit the table with a Panharmonicon active on their side of the table (apparently no one had removal lol and lmao). Gyruda was then copies multiple times utilizing clones from their own deck, as well clones from the Sakashima/Kodama deck, and each copy also had their triggers copied by Panharmonicon. It was a brutal mess.

Second game with Prosper was a bit more... balanced and drawn out. Other commanders around the table were Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons, Inalla, Archmage Ritualist, and Yurlok of Scorch Thrash. Yurlok played a turn 2 or 3 Mana Flare, and it was off to the races. The rest of the game mostly became holding Hapatra at bay (same pilot as Gyruda lol), and keeping them from comboing off. Biggest board state I was able to pull off with Prosper was Conspiracy Theorist, Grenzo, Havoc Raiser, Prosper, Outpost Siege, Kheru Mind-Eater, Etali, Primal Storm, and Mayhem Devil. Thanks to Mana Flare, everyone had a sizeable board, so I didn't get much chance to swing out. The pings from Mayhem Devil were really helpful. I passed up on two opportunities to dump 10-12 into the X for Torment of Hailfire I had in my opening hand. I wanted the game to play out, and felt more inclined to do it after we stopped Hapatra's first combo attempt. Inalla won after some convoluted back and forths.

Swaps post games

  • Conspiracy Theorist felt kinda lack luster and I think I have enough other draw effects that I don't really need it for that reason. I'm swapping in Chaos Warp to have another more flexible removal option.

  • Inspiring Statuary is likely going to be swapped for Swiftfoot Boots. My Etali, Primal Storm was either stolen or removed somehow each time I tried to play it, so having another haste/protection piece to get at least one trigger off of it would be great.

Additional swaps will be considered as I continue to reflect on the games from last night, but these are the two I feel strongest about so far.

Spicy! I've been playing a Kalain, Reclusive Painter Brawl deck on Arena and your list makes me wanna pull the trigger on the pre-con.

Prosper is a lot of fun tiffanyann. I've considered Kalain for this list, but mostly for flavor reasons. I'm currently in a D&D campaign with some friends, where I'm a Half-Elf Bard and my friend is a Tiefling Warlock. I was considering getting Kalain and Prosper altered to look like our D&D characters.

Apex of Power seems like it would be fun to pull off at least once. I'm pretty sure that it was part of the pre-con. I'll be getting some more games in with Prosper tomorrow night, and I'll update this list with my thoughts on how things go.

One thing to watch out for with Apex is that you don't get the mana if you cast it from exile
