"Live each day as though it's your first."

Ivern, the Green Father.

Hello! It's been a fair while since I've tried my hand at deck creation, and have decided to spruce things up a bit when it comes to my descriptions. This deck is a fair bit different than my usual decks, as I tend to play Blue and/or Red centric decks, while Green and Black remain two of my lesser used colors. As such, any suggestions for good staples that I may be unaware of would be appreciated.

Win Condition

The win condition for this deck is simple: Establish your roots, reach for the sun, and tower over your foes.

That is to say, the best offense is a good defense. Many treefolk cards have a decently high toughness, though their power often lags behind due to that. That, however, will also serve to be their greatest strength. With the use of the commander of this deck, 'Doran, the Siege Tower', all creatures will deal damage based off of their toughness rather than their power.

Powerful Combos

Doran, the Siege Tower + Unstoppable Ash

This combo is one of the staples of the deck: As previously stated, Doran makes it so that all creatures powers are effectively replaced by their toughness. Having Unstoppable Ash on the field gives all of your treefolks a massive +5 toughness (which alone is already pretty powerful for this kind of deck), but paired with Doran's effect, a +0/+5 becomes, in essence, a +5/+5, which can be brought out by turn 4, should you draw a lucky hand.

Ezzaroot Channeler + Sapling of Colfenor

Got a bunch of massive mana cost creatures in your hand, but not enough mana to cast them? This combo has you covered. Attacking with Sapling of Colfenor will give you a chance to gain a large amount of life by revealing a treefolk, allowing Ezzaroot Channeler's effect to free up some much needed colorless mana usage. Remember: You gain the life regardless of taking damage shortly thereafter. Ergo, if you gain seven life, but then lose five from Sapling of Colfenor's effect, your creatures will still cost seven less colorless mana to cost during Main Phase two.

Current Requests

If you've read this far, this is the part where I explain what I'm looking for! As you can see, the decklist is looking a little sparse right about now. I've got the treefolk's synergies down, but I would like input on just about anything else I should be running. Keep in mind, I'd like this to be a strong deck, but not an expensive one. Believe me when I say that this deck doesn't need a Black Lotus, although it would be keeping in line with the whole plant and nature theme.

Speaking of the theme! I'd like to stick well and true to the roots of this deck the best I can. I want it to be an honest and true treefolk deck, not just 'typical meta green-deck with treefolk creatures.' While I don't want to make weak decks, I also don't want to give up flavor for strength.

So, to reiterate, I'm looking for card suggestions that do the following:

  • Fit the treefolk, 'one-with-nature' vibe that I'm going for.
  • Fit within a creature oriented deck.
  • Will help speed along the process of getting typically high mana-cost creatures.
  • Will help boost the toughness of my creatures.
